Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is rolling out homegrown 4G in India and is the only telecom operator to do so. Talking to the media on Saturday, telecom minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said it was the prime minister's resolution that if BSNL was to deploy 4G, it would only be done through homegrown equipment. After a long wait, Indian companies have figured the technology out and C-DoT (Centre for Development of Telecommunication) is providing the 4G core while the RAN (radio access network) equipment is coming from Tejas Networks. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is the company that's acting as the systems integrator here.

The state-run telecom government plans to roll out 4G in over 1 lakh sites. The next step for BSNL is to upgrade the 4G sites to 5G and the work is ongoing to do that, said Scindia. According to PTI, Scindia said that Bharat has become the fifth country to have its own indigenous telecom stack ready for deployment.

"PM Modi has resolved under Atmanirbhar Bharat that India will develop its own 4G stack, core system or towers called radiation access network (RAN). India will develop its technology and give a 4G network to countrymen, and it took us one and a half years. Bharat has become the fifth country to have its own indigenous technology," the minister said.
