According to an ET report, Robert J Ravi said, "BSNL is progressing well with its 4G rollout, and will continue expansion next year. We are in the process of finalising orders for around 20,000 additional sites to strengthen our network coverage across the country. Additionally, we have floated a tender for deployment of another 10,000 sites on an operating expenditure (opex) model."

BSNL is reportedly also planning to launch 5G SA (standalone) in the opex model in Delhi and Mumbai. These orders, of course, will be executed by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) only. At present, BSNL is looking to exapand 4G first, so that it can add more high-paying customers as soon as possible. For now, there are about 97,000 sites which are live and offering 4G to the customers across India. These sites are powered by homegrown technology.

"Our priority is to ensure a robust and reliable 4G coverage across the country. We are strengthening our network systematically using AI tools while also assessing various models for future indigenous technology adoption," said Ravi.

What's noteworthy here is that the company also launched Voice Over Wi-Fi (VoWi-Fi) services across the country. It helps customers on 4G networks also get amazing indoor network coverage experience. This is a major move and one aimed at improving the customer experience. This will go a long way for the company to retain the existing users and also push to add new ones.
