Airtel to Likely Approach Govt for Same Relief as Vodafone Idea

airtel to likely approach govt for same

Bharti Airtel, the second-largest telecom operator in India, is likely going to approach the central government for relief on AGR (adjusted gross revenue) dues. Vodafone Idea Limited (VIL), on Friday morning shared with the stock exchanges that it has been granted a major relief of 10 years for the AGR dues. This is a big deal for the company, and will help it in focusing on the business over the next 10 years to come into a good position for paying off the dues. It will also help Vi in raising funds from the market.

For now, Airtel is likely to ask the government for same relief. Airtel’s stance has been constant on this – any benefit that is extended to one of the operators, should be given to another as well for creating a fair playground. Vodafone Idea Limited is a private telecom company, and that’s why the other private operators will feel it would be super unfair if they don’t get the same benefits.

What’s interesting here is that Airtel has already expressed that it has the capacity to pay off the dues super comfortably. After all, the telco boasts the largest average revenue per user (ARPU) in the country amongst the competition, and the best rate of returns on investments. However, any benefit is welcome to boost the business, and that is what Airtel would exactly be looking from the government.
