BSNL has announced new data STV which offer 1GB 3G for Rs 68 with validity of 10 days. This new data plan will be available for subscriber in all BSNL circles starting 1st April 2015 (not an April fool joke) as a promotional offer for a period of 60 days.
Earlier this month BSNL CMD Mr. Anupam Shrivastav announced BSNL plans to reduce 3G tariffs by 50% after phase 8 of network expansion. This new data STV is inline with above announcement by BSNL CMD. Recently BSNL has invested over Rs.4800 Crore in the phase 7 expansion and is expected to float the tender for phase 8 soon for 3G and 2G network expansion across the country.
BSNL in association with MTNL is the only operator to currently hold Pan India 3G spectrum, but has less than 10% share in 3G data market. With this new cheaper 3G data plan, BSNL wants to command a larger pie of 3G data market dominated by private operators. This would put pressure on incumbent operators Airtel, Idea and Vodafone, which offer pan India(except odisha) 3G service through ICRA at higher tariff compared to BSNL.
