Asus Zenfone 5Z to Get Android 9 Pie Update by the End of January 2019

Asus released its flagship phone, the Asus Zenfone 5Z back in July this year and it came with the Android 8.0 Oreo with Asus’ custom skin on top. Being the flagship phone from Asus which sports the top end, Snapdragon 845 SoC, the users of the phone were on the lookout for the Android 9 Pie update for their device. Asus has now come out declaring the timeline for the release of the Android 9 Pie update for the Asus Zenfone 5Z. The Taiwanese manufacturer has announced that it would be pushing the Android 9 Pie update to the Zenfone 5Z users by the end of January 2019, via Firmware Over the Air (FOTA) method. The new update is expected to bring new functionalities and features to the Asus flagship phone.

Android 9 Pie Features to Reach Zenfone 5Z in 2019

As per the information listed by Asus regarding the new Android 9 Pie update, the brand has said that the package would bring the new contextual pop-up volume bar and a new Magnifying feature which will facilitate easier copy and paste operations. Right now, there is only limited information about what the Android 9 Pie will bring onboard the Asus Zenfone 5Z. Among other features, Asus is expected to ship features like app actions, slices and Digital Wellbeing which are some of the prime functionalities of Android 9 Pie.

Asus has also informed that the update will be pushed to the Asus Zenfone 5Z with model number ZS620KL which is the model being sold by Asus in India. Further, being an over the air (FOTA) update, the users of the phone will be notified on their own, however, in case you want to check for updates manually then you can head over to settings, then move to System and System Updates and then tap on ‘Check for Updates’. Users will be able to spot this update in January 2019.

Asus Zenfone 5Z: Specifications and Features

The Asus ZenFone 5Z is the flagship phone by Asus, and it sports the 6.2-inch Full-HD+ screen rendering a resolution of 1080x2246 pixels on Super IPS+ display with an aspect ratio of 18.7:9. The screen is stunning when compared to other phones of the same price range, and it also comes with a notch on top. Under the hood, the phone sports the top-end Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, paired with an Adreno 630 GPU and up to 8GB of RAM which also makes this phone a very impressive performer.

For imaging and camera, the ZenFone 5Z sports a dual rear camera setup comprising of a 12MP Sony IMX363 primary sensor, with a f/1.8 aperture and OIS support, paired with this, is the secondary 8MP OmniVision 8856 sensor with fixed focus, f/2.2 aperture, and a 120-degree wide-angle lens. On the front as well, the phone flaunts the same, 8MP fixed-focus OmniVision 8856 sensor for snapping selfies.

The Zenfone 5Z also comes with the UFS 2.1 storage, boasting of 256GB internally. However, users can also decide to expand the storage via a microSD card up to 2TB. For the battery, the phone packs a 3,000mAh unit keeping the lights on and it comes with support for Quick Charge 3.0 and an 18W charger bundled inside the package.
