Apple's iPhone X was a massive hit, at least during the initial days. With every passing month, sales of the iPhone X are said to be declining, and with every passing month, we're drawing close to September, meaning Apple will unveil its next-generation iPhones. Numerous reports emerged online suggest that Apple will release three new iPhones this year with the screen sizes starting from 5.85-inch and going all the way up to 6.5-inch. A new report now suggests that the iPhone X with the smaller 5.85-inch display will be a lot cheaper than the current iPhone X and it's said to pack OLED display itself.
Luke Lin, Research analyst at Digitimes today said that the new 5.85-inch display model of the upcoming iPhone would feature the total bill of materials over 10% lesser than the iPhone X, meaning the price of the upcoming model will be definitely cheaper than the current model. When it launched back in 2017, the iPhone X bill of materials cost was more than $400, but the bill of the iPhone 5.85-inch model will be even lesser. This report is in-line with the earlier reports suggesting the price tag of 2018 iPhones starting from $749.
"Apple may position the new 5.85-inch device as the cheapest model of all three next-generation iPhone models," said Luke Lin in the report. In the report, Luke also stated that Apple was originally planning to launch a 5.85-inch LCD display mode (could be the iPhone X SE) in mid-February or mid-March, but the project was cancelled for some unknown reasons.
Luke Lin also added that Apple took fewer OLED displays from Samsung, owing to the weak demand for the iPhone X. However, he added that Apple reached an agreement with Samsung Display ending the contract with satisfactory terms.
As stated, Apple is planning to launch three new OLED display iPhones this year- a 5.85-inch cheaper model, a 6.1-inch model and a 6.5-inch OLED display model as a successor to the iPhone 8 Plus. All the three models are said to sport notched displays as the company hasn't yet figured out to remove the notch. The 2019 iPhone will be notch free as per a recent report.
