There were vague rumours last month that HMD Global will be announcing a new 3G variant of the Nokia 3310 (2017) feature phone. The company had unveiled the Nokia 3310 earlier this year, but a major downside to it was that it came with 2G support.
Now according to a new report, a new phone by HMD has been certified by the FCC (Federal Communications Commission). With the model number TA-1036, this new Nokia device appears to be a 3G handset. Based on all we’ve heard from the recent leaks, this particular phone seems to be the 3G variant of the Nokia 3310 (2017).
The original Nokia 3310 (2017) (review) with the model number TA-1030 was initially launched back in February during the MWC 2017 event. The HMD-owned smartphone maker later hinted that another variant of the handset was already in the works. However, they did not reveal any further information regarding the handset in the making.
The new handset that hit the FCC database now looks more or less identical to the 2G Nokia 3310 (2017) smartphone, even in length and width. This only makes us believe that the new phone that appeared on the FCC listing is indeed a 3G version of the original device.
Based on the recent FCC listing, we can conclude that the alleged new Nokia 3310 (2017) will support 2G as well as 3G bands in the US. Moreover, there have been rumours that the device will be launched as a budget smartphone alongside the Nokia 8 flagship smartphone. The Nokia 8 was scheduled to be launched on August 16, 2017.
To recall, the Nokia 3310 (2017) offers a boundless 1200mAh battery with a micro-USB port for charging. The handset comes with a 2.4-inch display with curved screen and packs in more than 16MB internal storage. The device also offers you the option of expanding the phone storage further up to a good 32GB via a dedicated microSD card slot. The smartphone is available in both single-SIM and dual-SIM variants.
The Nokia 3310 (2017) retains the classic features like the traditional Nokia ringtone, the Snake game, and its durability. The device also sports a 2MP primary camera with LED flash on the rear.
