Bharti Airtel, one of the largest telecommunications services provider in India, today announced that it’s extending its 4G services to Assam with the services going live in Dibrugarh and Tinsukia. Airtel subscribers in these regions can now get access to high-speed 4G internet to enjoy uninterrupted HD video streaming, uploading, and downloading videos, music, and images across multiple devices like smartphones, dongles, and 4G hotspots.

Currently, the services are being rolled out in Assam using TD-LTE in 2300MHz band. However, the telco had promised to also deploy FD-LTE technology in 1800MHz band in the near future.

Sameer Anjaria, CEO, Airtel North Eastern States and Assam commented on the launch saying “We are absolutely delighted to launch our 4G services in Assam starting with the towns of Dibrugarh and Tinsukia. Our valued customers can now upgrade to 4G, free of cost and enjoy a high-speed mobile broadband experience on the Airtel network. With the launch, customers can also look forward to exciting data offers, and choose from a host of affordable tariff plans that offer great value.”

In addition, Airtel had also announced a new 4G offer for its prepaid customers which provides 10GB of 4G data only at Rs. 249. On recharging with Rs. 249, users will be credited with 1GB of data instantly, and the rest (9GB) can be claimed through My Airtel app. Users will need a new 4G handset to avail this offer, though. Also, a user can only avail a maximum of 3 recharges within 90 days.

Currently, Airtel’s 4G services are available in 21 circles across India. The telco, in 2015, commenced a program called ‘Project Leap’ — a strategic initiative by the company (with an investment of Rs. 60,000 crores) aimed at improving the network quality to offer seamless experience throughout the country.
