Xiaomi’s this year’s budget lineup is expected to again perform well in the markets as the Chinese manufacturer has packed its phones well with good hardware and they also come with impressive performance. On the design front too, the new Xiaomi lineup does not fail to impress the buyers. This new line up consisting of the Xiaomi Redmi 6A, Redmi 6 and Redmi 6 Pro has already launched in India and is selling via the flash sale model. The Xiaomi Redmi 6 is an interesting smartphone as it comes with some downgrades alongside the upgrades. Read on to know why you should purchase the Redmi 6 at a price of Rs 7,999.
Xiaomi Redmi 6: Design
For a budget phone like this, the Redmi 6 lands right up according to our expectations concerning design and aesthetics. As a lot of you would expect, the Redmi 6, of course, inherits a lot of elements from its predecessor, the Redmi 5. With that being said, the aspect ratio of the screen is 18:9 which gives a phone a taller and sleeker look. Also, the screen has been trimmed down in the Redmi 6 to feature a panel which is 5.45-inch instead of 5.7-inch. The phone comes with 80.7% screen-to-body ratio and 1440×720 pixels HD+ resolution.
However, I didn't like why Xiaomi moved from metal on the Redmi 5 to polycarbonate on the Redmi 6. Despite sporting plastic body, the Redmi 6 feels sturdy when taken into hands.
Xiaomi Redmi 6: Face Unlock
Even while being a budget phone which comes with an extremely affordable price tag, the Redmi 6 comes with a software level Face Unlock to the surprise of many buyers. Although the Face Unlock is not the best one available in the market since it depends only on software rather than being hardware based, it is a smart little feature that can come handy in case you want to enable it on your device. It is impressive seeing that even though Redmi 6 is one of the cheapest offerings by Xiaomi, it comes with Face Unlock technology.
Xiaomi Redmi 6: AI Camera
On the rear side, the Xiaomi Redmi 6 comes with a 12MP + 5MP setup which comes with AI capabilities. As per Xiaomi’s claims, even in low-light surroundings, the these AI features will enhance the quality of the image. Further, the AI modes in the camera will better the image quality depending on the scenes. The front shooter of 5MP on the Redmi 6 also comes with AI portrait mode that offers Bokeh effect. For a smartphone of this price range, it’s appreciable for it to sport an AI equipped camera. During my usage, the Redmi 6 performed very well, and it's definitely a step up from the single camera on the Redmi 5.
Xiaomi Redmi 6: Performance
The Redmi 6 comes powered by an octa-core MediaTek’s Helio P22 SoC based on the 12nm process. As per Xiaomi’s claims, this new processor is 48% more efficient than its predecessors which are built on 28nm architecture. To recall, the Redmi 5 used to come with Snapdragon 450 chipset based on the 14nm process. This new SoC in the Redmi 6 gets paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB/64GB storage, depending on the variant. The internal storage is expandable to 256GB via microSD card.
Xiaomi Redmi 6: Software and Other Features
On the software front, the Redmi 6 boots Android 8.1 Oreo-based MIUI 10. Connectivity options on the phone include dual-SIM, 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi, GPS/ A-GPS, Micro-USB, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The battery on the phone is a 3000mAh one, and there is also a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.
Xiaomi Redmi 6: Pricing and Availability
The Redmi 6 will debut with a price tag of Rs 7,999 in the market for the 3GB and 32GB variant. The phone will be available on Flipkart for purchase. There's a premium variant as well which comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, priced at Rs 9,499.
