Bharti Airtel, the leading telecom operator in the country, has been named as the fastest mobile network by Ookla — one of the world’s most credible speed test organisation yesterday. To celebrate the achievement, Gopal Vittal, CEO, Bharti Airtel sent out an email to all the postpaid users teasing that a surprise is on its way.

He added in the email that Airtel will be “sending some free data” to its postpaid customers starting this 13th as an “Airtel Surprise.” Airtel postpaid subscribers will be able to enjoy the surprise data by logging onto My Airtel app. However, as of now, there’s no information on the specifics as in, the amount of data that the telco will be offering to its users.

Bharti Airtel, earlier today, rolled out a couple of revamped plans to counter Jio’s Prime membership plan. Out of the two, the Rs. 345 plan offers 1GB of 4G data every day until 28 days along with free local + STD voice calls. On the other hand, the Rs. 145 plan offers unlimited voice calls (local and national) within the network along with 2GB of 4G data with 28 days validity. However, you’ll have to own a 4G handset to make use of these offers as Airtel’s revamped plans apply only to 4G devices.

Although Airtel is charging a bit higher than what Reliance Jio is asking for a similar plan (Rs. 303), the upside here is that you don’t have to pay an additional Rs. 99 one-time subscription charge, unlike Jio.

Airtel’s not the only player offering such plans, both Idea Cellular and Vodafone (under the new ‘Welcome Back Offer’) are also offering similar benefits including free 4G data, and unlimited voice calls to any network with a 28-day validity.

All said and done, Reliance Jio’s new JioPrime Membership is not only turning out to be beneficial to Jio users but also to the subscribers of other telecom operators in the country.

What do you think about the new unlimited voice calling + 1GB data per day offer that’s being rolled by the above telcos? Also, how long do you believe that these benefits are going to last? Tell us your thoughts in the comments section below.
