Snapdragon 820 rumoured to stay exclusive to Samsung’s Galaxy S7 line-up

As we reported earlier, the Samsung Galaxy S7 is expected to be launched in two versions. One of the two variants will be powered by Samsung's own Exynos chispet while the other is dubbed to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 chipset, depending upon the market. However, the latest rumors suggest that Samsung might be the only manufacturer to use the new 820 chipset in its upcoming devices, well at least in its initial phase.

The report surfaced in China, and it mentions that Samsung will have an exclusive access to the chipset until April. It means that till April 2016, no other manufacturers might be allowed to integrate the Snapdragon 820 chipset in their devices. Samsung and Qualcomm have not confirmed the report yet so it should be taken with a pinch of salt.

If the rumour proves to have solid grounds then this might act as an advantage for Samsung. The Galaxy S7 is expected to be announced in February 2016 at MWC, and shipping might kick off by March. If Samsung sticks to its launch schedule then the Galaxy S7 could enjoy the edge over other smartphone makers for at least a month.

To remind you, Samsung’s next flagship smartphone might feature Apple’s 3D Touch like display with a retina scanner, USB Type-C port, better camera, and an expandable storage option. Moreover, the rumors also suggest that Samsung is working on a bigger display variant of the Galaxy S7, dubbed as Galaxy S7 Plus. It will be more like the Galaxy S6 Edge+, except that it will be larger than it. The expected measurement for the Galaxy S7 Plus is 163.32 x 82.01 x 7.82 mm, which also means that it might sport a 6-inch display. That reminds us of Samsung Galaxy Mega 2, which was a tough to handle device due to its large display.
