Micromax, the Indian OEM that has been taking on the global giants in India and some other countries has made it to the list of top 10 mobile brands globally as per a report from Gartner. Gartner is a global research firm. The report takes into account the sales (both smartphones and feature phones) of first quarter of 2015 (January-March) for calculation purposes.
A total of 460.3 million mobile phones were sold in the above mentioned period which was more by 2.5 percent than the sales in the same period last year. Micromax had a 1.8 percent market share and was at the 10th position. Samsung led the pack with 21.3 percent market share with Apple and Microsoft joining it on the podium with 13.1 and 7.2 percent market share respectively.
LG came in at the fourth place with a 4.3 percent share, followed closely by Lenovo with a 4.2 percent share and Huawei with a 4 percent share. Xiaomi which has been one of the most talked about brands off late had a 3.2 percent share, TCL (popularly known as Alcatel) had a share of 3.1 percent, ZTE was in the ninth place with 2.7 percent and our very own Micromax made an entry with a 1.8 percent share.
The reason for these Chinese and Indian manufacturers making it to the list was their strong performance in the sales department on account on new launches. A total of 336 million smartphones were sold in the above mentioned part.
