Idea Cellular Starts Offering 3G Data at 2G Price, 1GB 3G Data at Rs.128

It seems the data tariff war started by Reliance and BSNL, is really powerful one and has started impacting on the fellow operators. The solid A-Vo-Id group of Indian telecom is experimenting with their respective 3G tariff. After Airtel and Vodafone, Idea Cellular has also started offering 3G data at 2G price, with some ‘conditions apply’.

Idea 3G at 2G Price

Idea has brought this kind of 3G data vouchers for most of the circles where it is currently offering 3G services i.e. Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra & Goa, UP East & West.

Unlike one time recharge from Vodafone and Airtel, Idea is offering 3G at 2G price for its Smartphone users. Note that Idea is the only 3G operator in India, which has its own branded Smartphone offerings. These plans are available as FRC (First Recharge Coupon) or as Secondary Recharges.

I personally think the scope of making these plans popular is limited, as Idea makes these plans only for its Smartfone and NetSetter customers only. It should be extended on the other handsets too via reverse bundling.

Please check the new offers from Idea 3G Smartfone users:

Vouchers 3G data Valid for Other Details
Rs 128 1GB (after 1GB 2p/10 KB) 30 days 1GB data on first 12 recharges, from 13th recharge onwards benefit is 500 MB (in Kerala only)
Rs 247 2 GB + onnet local call at 20p/min (after 2GB 2p/10 KB) 30 days
Rs 297 1 GB/month + onnet local call at 20p/min (after 1GB 2p/10 KB) 60 days
Rs 746 1 GB/month + onnet local call at 20p/min (after 1GB 0.5p/10 KB) 150 days
Rs 1296 1.5 GB + 200MB facebook/month + onnet local call at 20p/min (after 1GB 0.5p/10 KB) 180 days

Notes:

1. Only for Idea Smartphone users.
2. Not all plans are available in all circles. Please contact customer care before making a recharge on your number.
3. Pricing may be slightly different from circle to circle.
4. Some plans are available as FRC only, while some can be continued as secondary recharges for a year in certain circles.

Idea’s dongle based mobile broadband offering – NetSetter users will also get similar offers as FRC.

Idea Cellular New NetSetter FRCs Details:

MRP (Rs) 3G Data Validity
175 1GB 30 days
177 3 GB 30 days
496 10 GB 30 days

Above mentioned conditions are applicable on NetSetter STVs also.

Operators Offering 3G at 2G Price in India:
Airtel New 3G Data Plan Details : 1GB 3G at Rs.124 ( Selected Customers mostly in Delhi circle ).
Vodafone India New 3G Data Plan Details : 1Gb 3G at Rs.126 ( Selected Customers Pan India ).

The 3G service offered by Idea (certainly in Ahmedabad) is terrible! The only slower 3G service I have used is DoCoMo … BUT at least their CUSTOMER SERVICE is good. With Idea, the service is poor and the Customer Service is some of the worst I have EVER experienced!

If you want to read up on the differences between Idea (the worst) and Vodafone (the best 3G supplier) then have a look at http://www.idea3g.in and you can see just how BAD Idea’s customer service is – even to the point of calling your friends when you are in dispute with them; I mean, how bad is that! They actually called a friend of ours and told them WE had given them their number (total LIE – they took the number from our call log).

Basically, whatever you do, DON’T go near Idea!!! Vodafone’s service is soooooooo much better in every way!

    Be warned.

You are saying Idea starts offering 3G Data at 2G Prices. Is it 3G recharge or 2G recharges. Please tell me.

    1GB data at Rs.175 for 30 Days.

    3GB data at Rs.177 for 30 Days.

10GB data at Rs. 496 for 30 Days.

But Idea Customer Care of UP West says all this is wrong and they are not offering such scheme.

I have also checked Idea website for online recharge and find such schemes are not available there.

Either Your advertisement is wrong or they (Idea Company) are wrong. What is wrong here. Will you people please tell me.

guys those of you who have low speed…(idea has the slowest speed on 2g network, but in 3g network it gives same speed as others i.e upto 4.8Mbps not MBps) so basically if u are recharging with 2g data plan where there is no 3g network,u will most likly only get speed less than 10Kbps

First, It’s not new offer. Second, this is useless offer. Its based on FRC recharge on idea smartphone & idea netsetter and after that the same data tarrif 246/1gb in haryana. A-Vo-Id think customers are fools Thats why companies launch such offers for own benefit and not for customer benefit. Why not customers neglect/ Avoid such money plucking networks? And support those one who promote offers for customer benefits such as Videocon, Aircel, Reliance, MTS. All these operators provide better special recharge & 2G/3G internet recharge than A-Vo-Id. Today each & every network has its range/signal even in villages. Therefore, In present only tarrif charges are matter. I’m eagerly waiting for Videocon/ Reliance Jio 4G launching.

It seems that greed of earning more from data packs by AVOID has not subsided till date. That is the reason why these companies are not making such offers public.
And finding any opportunity of keeping old tariffs intact will not make them favourable in any way.

    Docomo offers 750 MB 2G data + D2D Calls 1/6 second + D2D SMS free for 98/-
    With 30 days validity.

If these Multinational Brands have courage then reduce the Plan price per month.
    Give 500 MB 2G or 3G for Rs.50/- a month?

If cost per month is not reduced then it is not tariff Cut at all :)

I dont know why there no PIL before Court of TRAI that unless cost paid by customer is “NOT” reduced the Telecom Companies can not advertise it as Price Slashed?

First he got 1 GB and rest 1GB in 30 minutes but Idea says it can take upto 24 hrs. Other companies like Airtel/Vodafone don’t give extra benefits if pack is activated via USSD and you have to eRecharge to get it. A good step from Idea in this respect.

All this will result in poor 3G speed, network congestion, calls not connecting, server busy, sms taking time to be delivered. More than that company will sink like Aircel and Docomo. Then will have to come up with 20 mins disconnection problem as many will opt for service and there will be limited slots to cater everyone. Don’t forget, Quality comes at a cost and it is a fact that no company around the world is able to provide quality at cheap cost. If services are cheap then you will have to compromise for quality as we saw in the past with 2G services.

Tata will do away with 40 mins disconnection problem if users will be ready to pay more as it will help them add more infrastructure to handle everyone’s demand. But most of the users here are so selfish that they don;t want to see the other face of coin.

          @Tharun George,

If Aircel signal is present at your place and your SIM is active, you can use any service. I know recharges are not happening from anywhere and it fails on their website also for circles where services are stopped. But you can ask for balance transfer from other states if you have any friend/relative. I did the same 15 days ago. Asked my cousin in Punjab to recharge his account with Rs.69 from Aircel website which offers balance of Rs.100 and he recharged thrice and luckily got Rs.100 in all three. After that he transferred the balance via *122*666# to my Aircel Hayana number. Aircel don’t allow transfer of more than Rs.100 in a day so it took him three days to transfer whole balance. Also you can’t receive more than Rs.100 in a single day on same number so he failed to transfer from other SIM too. Service charge is Rs.2/transfer. After getting the balance I activated 3 months truly unlimited 2G pack and now enjoying it. :D The USSD option *122# which we used to activate Voice/SMS/2G packs says “Service unavailable for this code” but I remember the direct code and dialing it activated the pack. I also got 150 A2A calls as before the services were stopped Aircel used to offer the same. But as there is very less customer as most have ported out or have their SIM de-activated, these are useless.

As I’m the only user in my town getting rocking speed on constant basis. So keeping number alive since last year when services were stopped benefited me a lot. :)

Signal vanished a long time ago. No signal anywhere. They completely shutdown all service in Kerala. Wasted valuable spectrum. Trai should cancel there spectrum and license for kerala and sell it to other operators.

@Tharun, Ok. Were you using Aircel network or latching on Tata? The signal is live at my place as Aircel has their own BTS since 2010 and was also using Tata Docomo’s. Latching on Tata was stopped in Jan, this year. Beside this I’ve heard from many users in U.P and Gujarat that Aircel signal is live at their place wherever they installed BTS but recharges are stopped. So, I recommended them the same and those who were still getting network done the same. I asked them to first have Rs.5 transferred to their account from their friend(s) in working circle to check whether Rs.5 pack works by dialing direct codes (e.g *122*4*1*1# or whatever process they had) and after checking that they went for monthly packs. You can know the data balance at end of session as USSD code for it is not working. In my unlimited plan, it only shows data used.

I kept my number alive by calling 1 second every 2-3 days as had Rs.19 balance at the time services were scaled down and also via MNP SMS which I keep sending every 16th day. lol Now I hope their signals stays till December 6 as my data pack is valid till then. Also the local+std calls are being charged at 1p/s which tells that Aircel didn’t updated their system for circles where services are stopped. So every data, sms and voice pack via USSD are still the same albeit you know the direct codes. I remember the ones of 5 data packs only. :)

I talked to customer care to know whether the tower will keep running or not and he said, the BTS which has been installed will continue to work for roaming purposes for users from other circles. So you don’t worry. And when I told him the procedure I followed to get the talk time, he said, smart move by you. He also said we will intimate this process to anyone who will call from Haryana to get talk-time. At end, thank you for being a part of Aircel family. We hope you will continue to have a good experience with us. hahaha

BTW Anyone who needs talk time in closed circles can contact me. But only those getting signal and remember the process to activate packs via USSD.

@Ansh, Sorry bro, I had two SIMs but ported out one of them and kept only one. Now I’m also regretting the day I ported that otherwise would have given it to my friend who is dying to get it as his own SIM has expired and showing Registration failed. lol As far as speed is concerned it is same as it was 8-10 months before i.e 230-240Kbps on consistent basis. But now it stays same all the time. No matter you use it in morning, afternoon, evening or at night. But you know it’s too risky as even I don’t know when signal will be gone. But I had to activate as was fed up with limits. You know, I keep on checking subscriber data figures released by COAI every month and it shows Aircel has 11092 users in Haryana which is falling from 7+ lakhs. Also when I send MNP request after 15 days, the code number keep on increasing by 50-150 i.e if it was DH353699 before, it will be DH353753 next time which shows still some people have Aircel SIM and network and generating UPC code.

My sim won’t get registered on any network after Aircel stopped service. It has been few months and by now it might have been canceled too.

2G internet is not a problem for me. I have 15GB on Reliance 2G from Rs 179 20GB pack before they hiked GPRS tariff. It can be extended with any gprs pack. Speed always above 200kbps and up to 225kbps. Still its slow for youtube and sometimes Google.

Why not using Aircel Punjab or delhi sim in roaming haryana? You can rech it online easily.
