Well, this might sound a little tricky, but you have to take it. Xiaomi has officially announced an Android Oreo closed beta program for the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 moments ago. The Mi Mix 2 is Xiaomi's second flagship smartphone for 2017, after the Xiaomi Mi 6. That said, the Mi 6 was the first device to join the Android 8.0 Oreo closed beta testing, which is now followed by Mi Mix 2.
Since it's a closed beta testing, Xiaomi will select only a few Mi Mix 2 owners to test out the upcoming Android Oreo ROM. And yes, the availability is limited to just MIUI Chinese ROM, and it' still on MIUI 9 at the moment. Once the closed beta becomes open beta, Xiaomi might make the version number to MIUI 10, like it did last year.
Also, do make a note that this closed beta ROM will arrive with a slew of bugs, and we recommend not to install it on your primary smartphone. Currently, there's no update on when Xiaomi will expand the closed beta program to other countries, but it will happen pretty soon.
The entire process of enrolling yourself in the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 Android 8.0 Oreo closed beta program is listed on the MIUI forums page. Also, do make a note that Xiaomi may remove most of the stock Android Oreo features because it's a completely customised skin.
One of the major drawbacks for Xiaomi over the years is the software updates roll out. While most the devices from other OEMs are receiving Android Oreo update, Xiaomi is keeping its users waited for the year-old Android Nougat update. With Xiaomi testing out the next iteration Android version, it will be a matter of time for them to roll out it to the general public.
The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 has already received the MIUI 9 Global Stable ROM and is currently receiving regular software updates from the Xiaomi team with improvements and new feature additions.
