Xiaomi Mi A3 Likely to Come With In-Display Fingerprint Scanner and 32MP Selfie Camera

Alongside the Xiaomi Mi A3, the Chinese company might launch the Mi A3 Lite as well that succeeds the Mi A2 Lite

  • The Xiaomi Mi A3 is reported to have a 32MP selfie camera
  • Xiaomi is yet to reveal the launch date of the smartphone

It has been months since Xiaomi launched the Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite. A new report now suggests that the Chinese smartphone manufacturer may be working on two more Android One devices. These two Android One devices will succeed the Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite. This means that the spotted Android One phones from Xiaomi may be Mi A3 and Mi A3 Lite. Xiaomi is yet to confirm details about the Mi A3 and M A3 Lite, but it might launch the phones in the coming months. According to XDA Junior Member franztesca, Xiaomi has started hardware testing three new phones, two of which are most likely Android One phones. Most Xiaomi phones come with customised MIUI software on top of Android, but the Android One phones don’t. Xiaomi introduced its Android One lineup about two years back with the launch of Mi A1. Last year, the company launched Mi A2 series of phones and with this new report coming in there are high chances that Xiaomi may soon unveil its third generation Android One phones aka Mi A3 and Mi A3 Lite.

Xiaomi Mi A3 and Mi A3 Lite in the Works

The three smartphones have been spotted with codenames — “pyxis,” “bamboo_sprout,” and “cosmos_sprout.” The report suggests that the “bamboo_sprout” and “cosmos_sprout” are most likely the Android One smartphones from Xiaomi. One of the most interesting bits about these spotted phones is that they are being tested with “fod” or fingerprint on display.

Android One phones from Xiaomi are mid-rangers. Having said that it is possible that with the next generation Android One phones Xiaomi will finally introduce fingerprint sensor technology to the mid-range segment. Right now only the flagships from Xiaomi come with fingerprint sensor technology like Mi 9, Mi 9 Transparent Edition, among others. It is highly likely that the next Xiaomi Android One phones will come with optical under-display fingerprint sensors and not ultrasonic sensor. This is because to include an ultrasonic sensor Xiaomi will need to use OLED display which will increase the price of the phone, which Xiaomi may not opt for. The cheapest phone in India right now with an in-display fingerprint scanner is the Oppo K1 that’s priced at Rs 16,999.

Xiaomi Mi A3 Might Also Offer a 32MP Selfie Camera

The report further reveals that all the three phones will come with 32MP front-facing cameras similar to the Vivo V15 Pro that was launched last month. The Xiaomi phones are expected to use 4-in-1 pixel binning technology for the 32MP front camera. As of now, there is no information regarding the rear cameras of these listed Xiaomi phones. On the hardware front, the next-gen Android One phones from Xiaomi are expected to be powered by slightly powerful chipsets compared to the Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite which arrived with Snapdragon 660 and Snapdragon 625, respectively. It is possible that Mi A3 will be powered by Snapdragon 675 or Snapdragon 710 chipset.
