Xiaomi Launches Mi 5c And Redmi 4X Smartphones

Xiaomi has finally launched the much-awaited Mi 5c smartphone in China along with the new Redmi 4X. With the Mi 5c, Xiaomi has debuted its in-house octa-core Surge S1 processor. On the other hand, the Redmi 4X targets at showing off a flagship-level build quality. With the Surge S1 SoC, Xiaomi is now in the league of Samsung and Huawei who are known to have their own chipsets - Samsung's Exynos and Huawei's Kirin.

Regarding specifications, the Mi 5c comes powered by a 64-bit octa-core Surge S1 (4x 2.2GHz A53 + 4x 1.4GHz A53) processor with Mali-T860 quad-core GPU. It features a 5.15-inch full HD 1080p display with 550-nit brightness. The phone packs in 3GB of RAM and 64GB internal storage (eMMC 5.0). It sports a 12MP rear camera with LED flash and larger 1.25-micron pixels for enhanced light capture along with an 8MP f/2.0 wide-angle front-facing camera. It also features a fingerprint scanner embedded into the Home button. A 2860mAh battery backs the Xiaomi Mi 5c with 9V/2A fast charging technology.

For connectivity, the phone supports Dual-SIM, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac dual-band, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, USB Type-C, a 3.5mm audio jack, and FM radio. Sadly, the phone comes running Android 6.0 Marshmallow with MIUI 8 on top out-of-the-box, but the company did promise Nougat upgrade in March. The phone comes integrated with a 32-bit DSP for enhanced voice calling and dual microphones for noise reduction. Also, the VoLTE on the phone comes with an upgradable baseband and modem structure. The Mi 5c is priced at CNY 1499 (approx. Rs. 14,600).

Redmi 4X

Coming on to the Redmi 4X, the phone is an affordable smartphone by Xiaomi with a premium outlook. It comes with a large 4,100mAh battery, fingerprint scanner. On a downside, the Redmi 4X comes powered by a Snapdragon 435 chipset, which is not known for a fast performance and 5-inch 720p display. Thankfully, there is a 13MP rear camera with f/2.0, PDAF, and 5MP f/2.2 front-facing camera. There are two variants of the phone - 2GB RAM/16GB storage and 3GB RAM/32GB storage. For connectivity, the phone supports Hybrid Dual-SIM, 4G LTE (B40), Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, and USB OTG.

The Redmi 4X is priced at 699 Yuan (approx. Rs. 6,800) for the 2GB RAM/16GB storage variant and 899 Yuan (approx. Rs. 8,730) for the 3GB RAM/32GB storage version.
