Vodafone India Blocks Aircel SMSs in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, New Delhi and Karnataka circles

Vodafone India Blocks Aircel SMSs in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, New Delhi and Karnataka circlesThe telecom operators cold war over termination  fees continues, with now Vodafone India blocking incoming text messages from Aircel following a non-payment of termination charges.

Vodafone has become the second operator to block Aircel’s SMSes, with Airtel blocking the services a couple of days before Diwali. Vodafone had blocked Aircel’s network in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, New Delhi and Karnataka circles, with the dispute landing at the telecom tribunal.

Many Aircel customers received messages mentioning of the block, with the company assuring it was trying to resolve the issue. Earlier Airtel had blocked SMS traffic to Aircel and Reliance Communications (RCom), but connectivity to RCom subscribers were restored following an interim TDSAT ruling.

Airtel had blocked the text messages alleging that the companies were spamming its network with “free SMS”. The issue, which came up for hearing on Thursday before the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) has been deferred to Friday.

Separately, a dispute between Tata Teleservices Ltd and Vodafone India over SMS termination charges also reached TDSAT. Vodafone India had issued a notice stating it would block the Tata group company’s text messages on the latter’s platform, unless it paid the termination fee.

@Mane

@ MANE – what would you prefer – the OPERATOR to get a 10p SMS TERMINATION FEE or would you have the CUSTOMER get charged for INCOMING SMS terminated on his cell phone (the way it is in US)

>> Airtel,vodafone! You have most subscribers at gsm platform. Your call rates are up in the sky. NowYou want sms termination. Your hunger will not end greedy operators!

@Ankush sharma

@ ANKUSH SHARMA – dont be so confident – it will not take AIRTEL / IDEA / VODAFONE even one day to BLOCK access to WHATSAPP, SKYPE or any other IM app – on the ground of National Security – as text messages cannot be tracked (easily) by law enforcement agencies when sent though these apps.

>> Watsapp ka zamana hai guys…krne toh airtel n voda ko manmaami..
Inko bolo watsapp ko filter krke dikhaao
And yhi chalta raha toh ek din aaega..
Yh teeno companies milke b…uninor/docomo ke customers se

@Asit Paul
@ ASIT PAUL – I feel you are correct! Either ON NET SMS will be FREE and OFF NET SMS will be chargeable @ 10p – Tata Docomo is already charging 1p/sms (ON NET) and 3p/sms (OFF NET) here in Andhra Pradesh

>> Now operators will charge for offnet sms @10p even you have subscribed to sms packs.
