Vivo S1 With MediaTek Helio P65, Triple Rear Cameras Launched: Price, Specifications

Chinese handset maker and India's third-largest smartphone brand, Vivo, today introduced the Vivo S series in the sub-continent. The first smartphone under the new series is the Vivo S1 which boasts of an impressive gradient finish aimed at the youth. The Vivo S1 is the first phone in India to launch with the MediaTek Helio P65 chipset- the successor to the successful Helio P60 SoC. Unlike the Vivo Z1 Pro, which is an online-only phone, the Vivo S1 is a smartphone focussed for the offline market. There are some rumours that Vivo is planning to ditch the Vivo V series and replace it with the Vivo S series for both offline and online markets, but Vivo did not confirm this news so take it with a pinch of salt. The Vivo S1 comes in three variants with up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage and the phone offers three cameras on the rear side alongside a 32MP front-facing camera. Vivo S1: Specifications and Features

The Vivo S1 is a mid-range smartphone, but it's a phone aimed at the offline market, so the pricing is slightly on the higher side. The Vivo S1 comes in two colours- Skyline Blue and Diamond Black, and it weighs 179 grams, measures 8.1mm in thickness. The phone is constructed out of plastic, much like other Vivo phones available in the market right now. Upfront, the Vivo S1 has a 6.38-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED display carrying a resolution of 1080×2340 pixels. In recent times, we have seen several smartphones launching with AMOLED panels under Rs 20,000 and the Vivo S1 is no exception.

Thanks to the AMOLED panel, Vivo has managed to include an in-display fingerprint scanner on the Vivo S1.

Underneath, the Vivo S1 packs the MediaTek Helio P65 chipset which comes as a successor to the Helio P60 that was launched last year. Aforesaid, the S1 can be purchased in three variants- 4GB+128GB, 6GB+64GB and 6GB+128GB. It's great to see Vivo adding 128GB storage on the base model as well. Ports on the Vivo S1 include 3.5mm headphone jack, Micro USB port and a hybrid microSD card slot for storage expansion.

As for the cameras, we get three on the rear side and one on the front side embedded inside the teardrop notch. On the back, the Vivo S1 has a triple camera setup of 16MP+8MP+2MP. The primary sensor is a 16MP one, while the 8MP sensor has a wide-angle lens. The 2MP sensor captures depth information to offer better bokeh effect in portrait shots. On the front, we get a 32MP shooter with f/2.0 aperture and front screen flash.

Connectivity options on the Vivo S1 include Dual 4G, VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0, USB 2.0, GPS and OTG. The phone comes with Accelerometer, Ambient Light sensor, Proximity sensor, E-Compass and Gyroscope sensors. Lastly, the phone comes with a 4500mAh battery and has an 18W fast charger inside the retail box. The device boots Android 9 Pie-based Funtouch OS 9 out of the box.

Vivo S1: Pricing and Availability in India

The Vivo S1 prices in India start at Rs 17,990 for the base variant with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The other two variants of the phone with 6GB+64GB storage and 6GB+128GB storage will cost Rs 18,990 and Rs 19,990 respectively. The Vivo S1 takes on the likes of Xiaomi Redmi K20 and Realme X smartphones with its pricing. Stay tuned for first impressions dropping tomorrow.
