Last week, Vivo debuted another smartphone in the country which was waiting for its release. The company launched the Vivo S1 in India after teasing the phone for almost a month. The new device entered the Indian market with the promise of a flashy and fashionable smartphone with a tagline that reads “it’s my style”. By now you have probably guessed that the Vivo S1 makes its foray into the mid-range price segment and it comes with a special emphasis on design. The phone attempts to stand apart from the competing devices by its aesthetics and some of the highlighting features. So, without further ado, let’s dive right in and check out the Vivo S1 first impressions.

Vivo S1 First Impressions: Design and Display

Like we mentioned, the first notable thing about the Vivo S1 is its design. The phone has a trending design with colours reflecting a glare on turning the phone under the light. There are two colour variants to the phone which include the Skyline Blue and Diamond Black. The two phones have a bluish hue emitting from the back panel courtesy of a diamond-cut pattern. There is no doubt that the Vivo S1 is eye-catchy. The Diamond Black variant of the device is quite different from the other colour options as it comes with a gold metal finish encircling the camera module and the Vivo logo on this variant is also of golden colour. When it comes to positioning and the shape of the buttons, the Vivo S1 resembles the Vivo Z1 Pro

. On the front, the phone comes with a teardrop notch, and there is no fingerprint sensor on the rear side as it finds its way under the display.

Coming to the display of the Vivo S1, the phone sports a 6.38-inch Full HD+ 19.5:9 AMOLED screen with rounded corners which adds to the aesthetic appeal of the device. On the first look, the display of the Vivo S1 seemed decent although for a more detailed opinion on this you would have to wait for our full review of the device.

Vivo S1 First Impressions: Specifications and Performance

Under the hood, the Vivo S1 packs the MediaTek Helio P65 processor which is not really a chipset that you would expect to pack high performance. Another factor to consider is that the Vivo S1 comes with a smaller battery pack as compared to the Vivo Z1 Pro, the battery on the device is 4500mAh which makes the Vivo S1 slimmer and lends it a comfortable grip.

Vivo S1 First Impressions: Cameras and Software

Now on to the most exciting part of the phone, the camera specifications. The Vivo S1 sports a triple rear camera setup which comprises of a 16MP Sony IMX499 primary sensor with f/1.78 aperture. Along with this sensor, there is also one ultra-wide-angle sensor with a 120-degree field of view and f/2.2 aperture and a 2MP depth sensor as well. Some of the features that we were able to find include HDR, AI, AR stickers. On the front, the Vivo S1 sports a 32MP selfie camera with an f/2.0 aperture. Like it is the case with every Vivo phone, this one also comes with features like AI beautification and selfie lighting.

When it comes to the software, the Vivo S1 can be seen booting the Funtouch OS based on Android 9 Pie, and while the Funtouch OS hasn’t been considered the best Android customisation around, things have surely changed this time as the UI allows many options to customise the experience according to your own liking.

Vivo S1 First Impressions: Verdict

Considering all the facts about the Vivo S1, it can be said that the phone, although it is not as powerful as the Vivo Z1 Pro, it is also aligned towards a different consumer base that is more attracted to design and camera. When it comes to that, the Vivo S1 surely has some strong quirks in its favour. The phone comes in three variants- 4GB+128GB, 6GB+64GB and 6GB+128GB priced at Rs 17,990, Rs 18,990 and Rs 19,990, respectively. The sale of the smartphone has already begun in India via offline and online stores.
