Vi Getting Another Moratorium for AGR Dues was the Most Likely Scenario

vi getting another moratorium for agr dues

Vodafone Idea Limited (VIL), the third-larget telecom operator in India, is likely going to get yet another moratorium for paying off the adjusted gross revenue (AGR) dues. This comes at a time when the telco is struggling to raise money and the AGR dues to the tune of more than Rs 18,000 crore are payable in the near future. However, the government may just announce yet another moratorium period for the telco, and what will be even better for the company is that there may not be any interest on the dues over this deferred period.

The telco has about Rs 83,000 crore worth of AGR dues that are payable. Without any fund raise, and a dramatic rise in revenues for the telco, Vi would never be able to clear the dues. This is why the government may just need to provide Vi with yet another moratorium period on the AGR dues, and this time, without any interest accruing over the dues.

What’s interesting about this development is that reports suggest that this benefit may only be extended to Vodafone Idea. This will likely not sit well with Bharti Airtel. The thing with Airtel is that it can easily pay off these dues, but it would rather not do it now as there’s likely going to be no interest on it.
