Indonesian telco Telkomsel announced that it has ensured the readiness of network infrastructure in the country's new capital city, Nusantara (IKN). Telkomsel has deployed 49 base stations to support 4G and 5G mobile services in IKN and surrounding areas. Nusantara is set to open on August 17 and is located on the island of Borneo, 800 miles away from the current capital, Jakarta, on the island of Java.

Optimising Connectivity in Buffer Cities
Telkomsel also said it has ensured connectivity for customers entering the IKN area by optimising the network in two buffer cities, Balikpapan and Samarinda. This includes 10 special areas, such as airports, shopping centers, inns, and main roads connecting the two cities with IKN.
Smart City Capabilities and Digital Transformation
"By ensuring the optimisation of our leading broadband network, we are committed to providing convenient communication access in the Capital City of the Archipelago and supporting digital transformation in various sectors to realize the vision of IKN as a sustainable city with smart city capabilities based on future technology," said Telkomsel's network director.
"This step aligns with Telkomsel's vision and mission to provide leading services that empower the community and support the government in efforts to equalise development and provide infrastructure that can drive the Indonesian economy sustainably."

Telkomsel Sets Up Customer Service Centers
Telkomsel will be the first Indonesian telco to offer 5G services from the opening of the new capital. The operator said it has also prepared a range of digital products and services by setting up customer service centers, including booths at the arrival area of Sultan Aji Muhammad Sulaiman Sepinggan Airport in Balikpapan and at GraPARI Nusantara IKN.
