Telenor upgrades its network sites in six operating circles

As a part of its network modernization program, Telenor India has announced the modernization of 10,000 network sites in all its six operating circles. Under the modernization program, Telenor India targets to swap its entire 25000 sites with state-of-the-art equipment to deliver high speed internet and enhanced voice experience to its customers in the circle.


Telenor claims that it will swap nearly 50 sites per day. By Q1 2017, the upgrading of sites will be completed.

Commenting on the network modernization program, Telenor India CEO Sharad Mehrotra said, “The network modernization program shows our commitment to offer enhanced network quality experience and enrich the lives of our customers with affordable and relevant services. In a spectrum constrained and highly competitive business environment, the efficiencies we derive from the new network will help us maintain a cost efficient operation and be future ready to manage the increasing demand from our customers for data services.”

Lean GSM solution has been deployed in the modernized sites. This is said to improve the network capacity by nearly 25% using the same spectrum resources.

This is a step towards becoming a preferred partner in the digital journey of our mass market customers. We are becoming future ready and this project will enable us to launch relevant services on any technology by ensuring that we make life full paisa vasool for our customers,” said Tanveer Mohammad, chief operating officer, Telenor India.

According to Telenor, the sites at which have been migrated to new technology, Telenor has seen an increase in voice and data traffic. The network congestion has reduced and data throughput has increased resulting in improved network experience for its customers. In addition, the new equipment is environment friendly as it consumes up to 30% less power.

I am happy with their services. They should form joint venture with tata videocon and aircel or form AVOID like cartel.

I want telenor to be in Kerala .Because it was one of the serious player unlike Rcom and Tata .But bad luck due to spectrum scam case .

telenor shouldn’t exit from India otherwise cheap call & data will come to end as telenor is cheaper then any other operator, rather than exiting they should invest in India or they can merge with other operator (this option is not feasible) or they can topup their spectrum in 1800 mhz band & purchase 2100mhz band & they can invite foreign mvno players like lyca mobile & by this they can generate enough revenue to survive in the market & slowly slowly revenue from operations will increase. one shouldn’t forget about the fact that more than 80% users use only… Read more »
