There has been a lot of new happenings in the DTH and cable TV industry with the broadcasters implementing new changes for their channels. So far, it has been all good news for the subscribers of these services. Many popular channels, for which the customers were paying a premium for since the implementation of the new Trai tariff regime now come with lower pricing allowing the subscribers to make a saving on their monthly rental for DTH or cable TV. While not all the DTH operators have implemented these changes, slowly everyone is following suit to provide their customers with the best prices for these popular channels. It is also worth noting that the channels that have received the price cut are some of the most popular General Entertainment channels, meaning that a lot of subscribers will benefit from this move. In this latest update, Sun Direct is the one to implement the festive offer from the broadcasters.

What is the New Promotional Offer from Broadcasters?

Firstly, it is crucial to know what exactly is the festive offer and what do we mean by Sun Direct implementing it. As you might know that there are a lot of regulatory changes going on in the DTH and broadcasting industry. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) is planning on bringing some new rules into the picture which are likely to cap the discounts on the channel bouquets, and this would mean that the a-la-carte channels would not be available for more than certain price cap. Overall, the move would mean that the subscribers would enjoy equally attractive pricing for their favourite channels on both the channel packs and the individual channels as well. Now before Trai goes on implementing this rule, the major broadcasters in the country have already taken it on their hands to slash the prices of these channels.

Sun Direct Becomes Second Broadcaster to Offer Channels at Low Prices

The big broadcasters which have slashed the prices of these channels include names like Zee Entertainment Limited, Star India, Sony Pictures Networks India and Viacom18. Now, the first DTH operator to bring the new pricing of these channels to its customers was Tata Sky. We already know that Tata Sky has retained its top spot when it comes to providing excellent service to its customers, which is also probably the reason why the DTH operator is the topmost one in the country now. However, the second DTH operator which has implemented the new pricing of these channels is Sun Direct.

On going to the website of Sun Direct and exploring under the a-la-carte section, you will find that select channels come with the tag of “Promotional Offer” written under them. These are the channels which have received the price cut from the broadcasters recently. In the Hindi GEC section, we were able to note that Star Plus, Zee TV, Colors, Sony Entertainment Television (SET), SET MAX and Sony SAB were listed with the promotional offer tag. This means that the usual price of these channels is Rs 19 per month, but under the new offer from the broadcasters, these channels are available for Rs 12 per month only. It is also worth noting that this promotional offer is available only for the SD variants of these channels, and the HD variants are priced the same at Rs 19 per month.

Promotional Offer Applicable Across Channels of All Genres

Subscribers would also be glad to know that the new pricing benefit is not only applicable for Hindi GEC channels, but other channels also like Zee Bangla, Zee Telugu, Asianet, Nat Geo Tamil and many other channels have received price cut in some format or the other.
