Sony is expected to announce its high-end products during IFA 2015 that is supposed to happen in Berlin in the first week of September. However, the specification of three of its upcoming high-end smartphones – Sony Xperia Z5, Sony Xperia Z5 Compact, and Sony Xperia Z5 Premium – have been accidentally leaked by Sony Georgia on its official Facebook page. One of the most important and surprising feature of these smartphones is the Xperia Z5 Premium's 5.5-inch 4K display that has a screen sharpness of 801 ppi. The Xperia Z5 will feature a 5.2-inch 1080p display while the Xperia Z5 Compact will come with a 4.6-inch 720p display.

Sony Xperia Z5 Premium Compact Specifications 4K Display

According to the specifications that were revealed, the Sony Xperia Z5, the Sony Xperia Z5 Compact, and the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium will come with 23-megapixel cameras. All these devices will use a 1/2.2-inch camera sensor with a hybrid 192-point phase-detection autofocus system that allows the device to focus on the subject within 0.1 second. The camera will have an F1.8 aperture lens, optical image stabilisation (OIS), and an ability to record 4K videos. These will be the first smartphones from the company to use OIS inspite of many other brands like Apple, Samsung, OnePlus, Microsoft (Nokia), and LG using it in their high-end camera-focussed smartphones.

Sony Xperia Z5 Premium Specifications

  • 5.5-inch IPS LCD display, 3840 x 2160 pixels 4K resolution, 801 ppi
  • Android 5.1.1 Lollipop
  • 23MP primary camera, 1/2.2-inch EXMOR RS Sensor, Hybrid 192-point Phase-Detection Autofocus, F1.8 aperture, OIS, 4K video recording
  • Touch-based fingerprint sensor, IP67 Certification, water- and dust-resistance
  • 4G LTE, dual-band Wi-Fi ac/b/g/n, Bluetooth, A-GPS with GLONASS, microUSB 2.0 port, and 3.5 mm headphone jack

Other features that we can almost be sure of being included in these devices are an IPX7 certification for water- and dust-resistance, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi ac/b/g/n, Bluetooth LE, A-GPS, and microUSB v2.0 port. Sony had recently stated that they are still looking into USB Type-C connectors, but they don't think that the ecosystem is widespread enough to be able to help users. These devices will also touch-based feature fingerprint sensors on the right hand side, a first in smartphones, and an image proving the existence was leaked a few weeks ago.

If this information turns out to be true, Sony might have some killer devices in its hands, but they have to price them competitively to be able to fend off competition from the likes of the upcoming Apple iPhone 6S and Apple iPhone 6S Plus, the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+, and the Samsung Galaxy Note 5. It is being said that the Xperia Z5 Premium's extremely pixel-dense 4K display will assist in better experience while using virtual-reality headsets.
