Recent reports suggested that the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is expected to the hit the markets on August 23, right before the IFA 2017 kicks off in Berlin. In the midst of various leaks surrounding the smartphone, Samsung just gave away a major hint at what the phone might actually look like. Was it slip on Samsung’s part or was the leak deliberate – We do not know. Nonetheless, we now have the first look of the Galaxy Note 8, and it’s not very different from what the rumours suggested.
The South Korean company tweeted out an image showcasing the latest Exynos 8895 chipset on top a device that looks uncannily like the recently leaked Galaxy Note 8 renders. The Exynos 8895 chipset already powers Samsung’s Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ smartphones and going by this image; it will most likely power the Galaxy Note 8 as well.
The device in question comes with an Infinity Display, seen in the Galaxy S8 series smartphones. The front of the handset shows only an extremely thin top bezel with a curved display to the sides, sans any bezel. Unfortunately, the image does not reveal the bottom part of the device, leaving us wondering about the fingerprint sensor and the home button. The camera of the Galaxy Note 8 also remains a mystery since the image does not show the back of the device.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 cases listed online and the leaked renders have been hinting at a missing in-display biometric sensor and rather a rear mounted scanner. Although this “accidental” leak by the company does not give away much of the specifics, it will be interesting to see how much of the leaked renders turn out to be true in the actual Galaxy Note 8 device.
The release of the Galaxy Note 8 coincides with that of the other main smartphones and will take on Apple’s iPhone 8 and the Google Pixel XL 2, both of which are expected to be unveiled sometime before the end of 2017. The Galaxy Note 8, apparently had to ditch the in-display fingerprint sensor last minute due to some technical difficulties while the iPhone 8 seems to have mastered it. The Galaxy Note 8 will come with an S-Pen smart stylus and a dual-camera setup – an upgrade from the Note 7’s single rear camera.
With the first look out, we can expect further specification leaks in the coming weeks given that the official launch is not too far off.
