With 2017 coming to the close, Samsung’s upcoming flagship phones, the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ are the talk of the town. Recent rumours indicated that the flagship smartphone might even show as early as January next year. Samsung, however, trashed the rumours of its Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ appearing at Consumer Electronics Show 2018 in Las Vegas.

Instead, Samsung is expected to stick to tradition and unveil the new Galaxy S9 series flagships sometime around Mobile World Congress in late February. Last year, Samsung announced the Galaxy S8 and S8+ at a special event in New York City on March 29.

The Korea Herald reports that Samsung dismissed the speculations of S9 and S9+ at CES by saying, “It is unlikely”. The Seoul based English daily also buried rumours of in-display fingerprint scanner commenting that there were still some technical challenges left unaddressed.

Ahead of the official announcement, the top of line Galaxy smartphone has been subjected to several leaks and rumours. For starters, the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ are coming with Qualcomm’s top range Snapdragon 845 chipsets on board. Qualcomm just announced their new Mobile Platform which will come with significant improvements in AI, camera, digital assistants, security and more.

The Qualcomm variant will ship to the United States while international variants will come with Samsung's own chipset. Samsung's Exynos 9810 chipset will power both the smartphones. Both variants will come with Android Oreo out of the box if rumours are believed to be true.

As for the design of the phone, leaks reveal the S9 will likely sport the same edge to edge bezel-less glass and metal design like the Galaxy S8. Of course, there will be slight changes in the new smartphone. A source claims Galaxy S9 will come with 90% screen-to-body ratio up from 84% of previous year's Galaxy S8.

Industry sources also claim Samsung will come with a new rear camera with capabilities of shooting 100 frames per second. As for much awaited dual rear cameras on S9, there is no confirmation. However, reports claim the Galaxy S9 may feature a regular single sensor while S9+ may come with dual camera setup.

More details of the devices are expected to be revealed in coming weeks. Stay tuned for regular updates on Galaxy S9 and S9+.
