South Korean smartphone giant, Samsung is all set to launch its much-awaited Galaxy M lineup of devices in India on January 28. The new smartphones will be exclusive to Amazon India and can also be purchased via the Samsung Online store. Samsung sent out a press statement revealing that the upcoming devices will be available for purchase from March 5. There are chances the new devices will be exclusive to the online marketplace itself as we may not see them in the offline stores. Furthermore, India will be the first country to launch the new series of smartphones, the company said in the same press release.

Samsung Expected to Launch Three Smartphones on January 28

Samsung is expected to bring three smartphones under the Galaxy M series. The smartphone giant is also expected to discontinue the Galaxy J and Galaxy On series in the sub-continent. The Galaxy M10, M20 and M30 are likely to be unveiled on the launch day, but as Samsung confirmed, the sales of these smartphones will only begin on March 5. It's expected that the Galaxy M10 and M20 will be available starting March 5, while the M30 could be available for purchase at a later date.

The new Galaxy M devices are said to come with a powerful display, camera, battery and a processor. The Galaxy M devices will have Infinity-V display tech, which in other words, is the same teardrop notch display as we saw on smartphones such as the OnePlus 6T, Redmi Note 7, among others.

As for the rumoured specifications, the Galaxy M20 will house a 6.4-inch IPS panel on the front and it will be backed by a 5000mAh battery. The Galaxy M10 will have a smaller display and battery, as it will be the most affordable smartphone of the series. Rumours also claim that Samsung might launch the premium Galaxy M40 at the same event, but nothing is confirmed by the brand at the moment.

Earlier, Samsung confirmed the Galaxy M devices would be priced between Rs 10,000 and Rs 20,000, giving a tough fight to brands such as Xiaomi, Asus, Honor, HMD Global and Motorola.

Samsung Looking to Take Back the Top Spot from Xiaomi

It has been five quarters since Samsung lost its top spot to Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi. Xiaomi has been doing a tremendous job in India since the start of 2017 and it will continue as the brand is expected to launch Redmi Note 7 in India very soon. Samsung hasn't been that aggressive in the last few years even though it lost its top spot.

The Galaxy J and Galaxy On models launched in 2018 didn't impress many, even though the company reported strong sales. Xiaomi sold 10 million smartphones in a single quarter, which Samsung isn't able to achieve because of the mediocre offerings.

In recent times, Samsung launched some decent models like the Galaxy A7 (2018), Galaxy A9 (2018), and so on, but they're again overshadowed by the competition. Samsung is pinning its hopes on the Galaxy M series this year, but it will be interesting to see the complete spec-sheet of the upcoming handsets.
