Reliance Jio, the LTE-only network of India has emerged as the fastest network yet again for the month of May 2017. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released the speed test data conducted by over million users on the TRAI My Speed app, which says that Reliance Jio registered an average download speed of 18.809 Mbps in May 2017.
This is the fifth consecutive time Reliance Jio came on top of the list, beating incumbent operators such as Bharti Airtel, Vodafone India, and Idea Cellular. Nevertheless, the average download speed of Jio came down from 19.12 Mbps it registered in April 2017.
Following Reliance Jio is Vodafone India with an average download speed of 12.28 Mbps. Idea Cellular registered a download 11.68 Mbps, while Bharti Airtel stands last in the list with a speed of 8.24 Mbps. Airtel is having a rough patch in the country since the past few months, especially after the emergence of Reliance Jio.
These data speeds are for the 4G technology. When we consider the 3G technology, Vodafone comes on top with an average download speed of 5.65 Mbps, followed by Idea Cellular with 3.59 Mbps speed. Airtel is third on the list with 3.53 Mbps average download speed on the 3G technology. Furthermore, Aircel registered a speed of 2.36 Mbps, while state-run telecom operator stands in fifth place with 1.59 Mbps average download speed.
Coming to average upload speed, Idea Cellular emerged as a winner with an average upload speed of 7.56 Mbps in May 2017. Following Idea Cellular is Vodafone with an upload speed of 6.95 Mbps. Reliance Jio is third on the list with an upload speed of 5.01 Mbps, while Airtel comes last yet again with an upload speed of 4.01 Mbps.
Nevertheless, in 3G upload speed, Vodafone is on top with 2.16 Mbps average upload speed in May 2017, followed by Idea Cellular with 1.56 Mbps and Bharti Airtel with 1.45 Mbps speed. Aircel registered an upload speed of 1.16 Mbps, while BSNL has 1.11 Mbps upload speed in May 2017.
