Reliance Jio implements SON technology to quickly expand network in a cost-effective way

Reliance Jio has successfully deployed a SON solution powered by AirHop’s eSON360 product, called JioSON to quickly expand its network in a cost-effective way while providing a high-quality customer experience to its fast-growing subscriber base.

The latest software technology supports Reliance Jio’s pan-India LTE network, which is now serving over 100 million subscribers in the country. Reliance Jio, in a statement, said that part of its network’s success is attributed to a focus on automating the Jio broadband network, enabling rapid and effective configuration and optimization of Jio’s heterogeneous network.

Bharti Airtel and Vodafone, India’s top two telecom operators have already deployed the technology to improve the overall network stability across the country.

“Traditional operators are typically slow to respond to customer demand, with long lead times for new services and capacity. Jio has been able to fundamentally change this paradigm by delivering broadband connectivity and a suite of rich media services and content to an unprecedented number of users in record time,” said Mathew Oommen, President, Reliance Jio.

“AirHop has been a great technology partner throughout our network launch where automation and self-healing were introduced to remove interference, offering higher spectral efficiency within the LTE network,” Oommen added.

eSON360 powers Reliance Jio’s SON solution and enables Jio to quickly expand its network in a cost- effective way while providing a high-quality customer experience to its fast-growing subscriber base. eSON360 is a highly scalable platform is always responsive, resilient and elastic to the network environment, achieving a virtualized solution that fits well in SDN/NFV frameworks.

eSON360 enables Jio to optimize its network performance in real-time, delivering multi-cell coordination of network resources, optimized coverage, capacity, and mobility while adapting to the ever-changing network environment. In addition, eSON360 provides a true multi-vendor real-time SON solution that enables Jio to deploy across it RAN vendor base to achieve a common SON approach. eSON360 delivers flexibility in deployment topology, enabling JioSON to be deployed across already existing data centers spread throughout India.

“The success of Jio’s commercial network deployment is the first fruit of its unyielding commitment to build a data and cloud centric state-of-the-art network through innovation and we are very proud to be part of that initiative,” Yan Hui, CEO and co-founder of AirHop Communications, said in a statement.

If 2300MHZ is so bad than I wonder why the hell Idea bought 2500MHZ spectrum for pan India.

The best way was to put every inch signal in 2300MHz band .But it requires very large investment and through out the world hardly any operator have done that. They choose lower bands for lesser investment and more signal but for this same fashion LTE is being criticised through out the world for not standing up to mark and customers expectations

The 2300MHz band is getting choked. too much load isnt good. I want TRAI to remove the spectrum cap so that Jio can buy as much spectrum as they want. 3x20MHz on band 40 will give around 500Mbps download with 2x2MIMO. Now with that new Gigabit phone, they can use 4×4 MIMO and get around 1Gigabit per second download on the 4g network. But first, band 40 keeps disconnecting every now and then. They need to get it optimized. Its almost everywhere. Band 40 is really unstable. And in some places, band 40 gives less than 1Mbit on both download… Read more »
