Reliance Jio Postpaid Plan of Rs 199 Losing Out to Competition from Incumbent Telcos

Even after two years of operations, Reliance Jio is only offering a single postpaid plan of Rs 199 in its portfolio

  • The Rs 199 postpaid plan also does not offer any freebies or additional benefits unlike competitors
  • There is only single choice for Reliance Jio postpaid customers

There is no doubt that Reliance Jio stands unbeatable when it comes to prepaid offerings even when the other telcos have become bullish in this segment. However, if we were to point out a weak spot for Reliance Jio, then undoubtedly it would have to be its postpaid offerings. While the other telcos are offering tons of postpaid plans and raking in significant revenue from their postpaid offerings, Reliance Jio has a single Rs 199 postpaid plan. This means that Reliance Jio subscribers who would like to have a postpaid connection either have to make do with the Rs 199 postpaid plan or they have to shift to some other provider. How exactly does it affect Reliance Jio, is the main question now.

Reliance Jio Rs 199 Postpaid Plan Details and Competition

Just like it is the case with Reliance Jio’s prepaid strategy, the telecom operator wanted to conquer the postpaid segment with its uber-cheap offering. As such, the telco launched the Rs 199 JioPostpaid plan for its users. In the Rs 199 postpaid plan from Reliance Jio, the users can enjoy 25GB data, free unlimited calling, 100SMS per day and complimentary subscription to Reliance Jio’s host of applications. After the exhaustion of the said 25GB limit in a month, the subscribers will be charged at Rs 20 per GB. Apart from the Rs 199 postpaid plan, Reliance Jio offers no other postpaid plan.

Now onto the part to discuss how well the JioPostpaid plan fares against the postpaid plans of other telecom operators. Now, when the JioPostpaid plan was first launched it was considered as a game changer in the industry, the rates which Reliance Jio was offering were impressive as compared to other telecom operators. However, it has been time since Reliance Jio launched its postpaid offer, and the market has adjusted. The incumbent telcos have drastically revamped their postpaid portfolios to make their plans more attractive, and they have bundled these plans with more and more freebies.

Why Reliance Jio Postpaid Plans Fail to Leave a Mark

Airtel in its Infinity postpaid plans is offering Netflix and Amazon Prime memberships along with Airtel TV subscription, handset protection and more. On the same lines, Vodafone’s RED postpaid plans are offering Amazon Prime membership, Vodafone Play subscription, Mobile Shield and more. Now even though these plans start retailing at a higher price as compared to the Reliance Jio postpaid plan, they will still be able to retain the postpaid customers simply because the postpaid customer is stickier as compared to the prepaid customer and is likely to be more loyal.

In the transformed telecom market also, the content offerings have come to mean a lot and in such a scenario, merely shipping data and calling does not cut it for a lot of users when it comes to Reliance Jio postpaid plans. That is the reason why the Reliance Jio Rs 199 postpaid plan lags behind the other postpaid offerings in the market. The apparent chasm between the incumbents’ postpaid plans and Reliance Jio’s postpaid plan is because of the lack of choices and lack of freebies and bundled offerings which Reliance Jio and other telcos offer

I am using Jio postpaid without any glitch or issues. System is simple and 25 GB is more than enough for me. No issues with billing. Only problem is activation. Executives ate last bothered about rendering postpaid connections.

1. Migrated from prepaid.
2. All offers of prepaid become void. But you can always verify with your local kiosk.

3. Credit limit is ?750.
4. Getting the payment link to my jio page where I am paying via card over billdesk platform.
5. You have to recharge ?99 for prime again. And ?250 for deposit.

Thank yo
1) in prepaid , i got some 44 coupons of rs50 each and rs51 coupon of additional 3GB data, I just want to know , wheather all those gets lost, or not?

2) yes i know rs99 +250 is extra burden.
3) when is billing date and grace period to pay bill?… I hope 15 days from bill date date.

Anyway my Major requirement is solved. Jio has launch prepaid sim for amarnath yatra. I was searching solution, Avoid postpaid was just waste of money.
JIO postpaid rs199 plan was nearest solution, which i was expecting to be on continue from thereafter.

I think all prepaid freebies will be null and void. The billing date is first of every month and the grace period is 17 days.

Why is Jio not offering family plans or multi connection plans under single billing, like Vodafone? Can someone please shed light on this odd attitude of Jio?

Because in airtel you pay ?199 for family plan. However, in jio you get additional connections. Also airtel throttle speed on child connection to 2 mbps

this is not true, so there are dedicated 599 749 plans with add on connections. and child plans speeds are not throttled using child plan for my office number since over a year
