In 2018, Reliance Jio introduced the Jio GigaFiber to India. The Mukesh Ambani led telco even led pilot tests in the Mumbai and Delhi NCR regions, but given that the service was only in the testing phase, limited people had access to it. Now as per a new report by India Today, the telco will reach broader customer base in 2019 as it will enter tier II and tier III cities with its Jio GigaFiber services. Although there has been no exact date set for the commencement of Jio GigaFiber services, the reports highlight that by March 2019, Reliance Jio will start its services in major cities.
Commercial Launch of Services in March 2019 in 1,100 Cities
For those of you who might not know, Reliance Jio’s GigaFiber is a Fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) service which will avail high-speed fibre-based fixed line broadband connection to the users along with other services. A subscription to Reliance Jio GigaFiber will mean that users will get access to a router and a GigaTV set-top box as well. Jio has claimed that it wants to extend its Jio GigaFiber services to 50 million homes and 1100 cities in India.
After the beginning of the registration of Reliance Jio GigaFiber, Jio was seeing how much interest it is receiving from the masses across the country. Initially, select users in Mumbai and Delhi had access to the Reliance Jio GigaFiber. It provides wall-to-wall FTTH service which means that the walls will not obstruct the internet connectivity. Not only that, but it will also come bundled with other services like the GigaTV set-top-box which will be an add-on to the internet services thus making Jio's offering an end to end solution for the consumers.
Reliance Jio GigaFiber Preview Offer
Like it is the case with every Reliance Jio launch, the telco will be offering very exciting offers in its subscription to Reliance Jio GigaFiber. As per the preview offer outlined by the telecom operator, users will get 1100GB monthly data quota when paired with data add-ons, with a speed of 100 Mbps for 90 days. In case subscribers run out of their data limit, they can avail a data add-on pack for free from the MyJio app which will be of 40GB. Apart from the preview offer, Reliance Jio has not yet revealed any other plans for GigaFiber, however, given the telco’s history of offering extremely affordable data, it is expected that Reliance Jio’s GigaFiber plans will be similar and will offer high-speed broadband services on an affordable price.
Interested subscribers should also note that Jio will offer free installation services as part of the GigaFiber subscription, but the new customers will have to make a safety deposit of Rs 4,500 which will be refundable when the customer decides to discontinue the service. By the end of March this year, we can expect that Reliance Jio will start providing fixed line services to almost all major cities.
