Reliance Jio Infocomm is all set to start rolling out its 4G network in the country and it wants to do a test run before it actually begins the roll-out. It has just filed an application with the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to test the 4G network before the launch takes place.
"Reliance Jio has written to DoT requesting it to start test of legal interception and monitoring solution in its network across circles which is conducted along with security agencies and is mandatory before launch of telecom services," an official source told PTI. The company will start its 4G services by March 2015 in majority of the circles it plans on rolling out the network to.
Reliance is the only company with a license for a pan-India 4G roll-out and it will be covering about 5,000 cities (90 percent of urban India) and 2,15,000 villages. The aim is to increase it to 6,00,000 villages in future. 2015 is the last year for the companies that won the spectrum in 2012 to begin providing their services.
Reliance has the infrastructure in place already and the test run would ensure that the services are rolled out smoothly. Pricing, however will be the key in determining the success of the 4G network in the country.
