Recently we got our hands on Reliance 3G Wi-Fi data card, which offers Wi-Fi tethering (Hotspot) to up to five devices simultaneously.
The device is manufactured by ZTE Corporation and claims to offer the following functionalities:
- Wi-Fi Tethering (Hotspot) functionality: Connects up to 5 Wi-Fi devices simultaneously
- Data download speeds up to 14.4 Mbps
- Data upload speeds up to 5.7Mbps
- Fast autoconnect
- Works with external power adaptor
In The Box
- USB Modem
- USB Adaptor
- Quick guidebook
- Warranty card
- ZTE service centre list book
Pricing and availability
The cost of the device is around 2199, which does not include any free starter data packs. Consumers will have to recharge a separate starter data pack. The data tariffs are costlier than your Reliance 3G data tariffs for mobile phone. While 1GB 3G data is available for Rs 156 for mobile, the same plan is priced at Rs 255. RCOM claims that's because it offers faster speed with the data card. As for availability, we were able to get our hands on the device easily in Mumbai, however, it appears that the device is not easily available in some parts of South India.
Things to look out for in the full review
We will be testing the connectivity, speed and performance throughout Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane and in some distant suburbs of Mumbai in coming days. The reliance web world guys, from whom we bought the device warned us to not insert our reliance mobile SIM card in the device as it would get deactivated. We agree that we might not get the same results with the mobile SIM card in the device, the fact that he claims that it might get deactivated seems outrageous. We will certainly put this to test.
If there's anything you would like to know about the device, please let us know in comments.
