Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro Confirmed to Come With MediaTek Helio G90T Chipset

Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro will be the first smartphone to come powered by the MediaTek Helio G90T chipset. The chipmaker, MediaTek, on Weibo has confirmed this news as the launch of Redmi Note 8 Pro is scheduled for August 29. Earlier this month, MediaTek unveiled the gaming-oriented Helio G90T and Helio G90 chipsets in India. Xiaomi's Global VP and India Managing Director, Manu Kumar Jain, also attended the event and confirmed that the company would launch a smartphone with the Helio G90T chipset. So, we're expecting that the Indian variant of Redmi Note 8 Pro may ship with the same Helio G90T chip. Over the last 18 months or so, MediaTek chips have been getting good reviews- be it the entry-level Helio A22, Helio P22 or the mid-range Helio P60 or Helio P70, every processor was appreciated by the audience and smartphone brand companies alike.




Redmi Note 8 Pro- the First Phone to Launch With Helio G90T SoC

The MediaTek Helio G90 series takes on the Snapdragon 730 series of chipsets from Qualcomm. The Redmi Note 8 Pro will be the first phone to come out with Helio G90T chipset, aimed at the gamers. The Helio G90T is an octa-core chipset built on 12nm manufacturing process and it has the ARM Mali-G76 3EEMC4 GPU. Traditionally, MediaTek chipsets over the last 18 months offered decent performance, but gaming performance is something they lacked. However, MediaTek seems to have solved that issue with the G90 series of chipsets.

The G90T supports up to 10GB of RAM, 64MP rear camera and 90Hz refresh rate for the display. While we may not see a 90Hz panel and 10GB of RAM on Redmi Note 8 Pro, the 64MP rear camera is one of the key highlights of the smartphone. The Note 8 Pro already teased to come with 64MP quad-camera setup.

Right now, we don't have any information related to the Redmi Note 8's processor, but we're expecting it to come with Helio G90 chipset. That said, the usage of MediaTek processors will allow Xiaomi to price the Redmi Note 8 series even more aggressively, compared to the predecessors.

New Redmi Note 8 Pro Leaked Image Hints at Redmi K20-Esque Design

Both the Redmi Note 8 and Note 8 Pro are making appearances on the web ahead of the official launch on August 29. The Redmi Note 8 Pro has now been leaked in a new image in Green colour and the design of the phone is very similar to the Redmi K20 series launched recently. Xiaomi launched the Redmi K20 series in Flame Red, Carbon Black and Glacier Blue, but it did not launch any Green colour variant. The Redmi Note 8 Pro might come in a Green and Black colour combination for the glass back. We don't have the official colours of the smartphone yet, but the company is expected to reveal them on August 29.
