Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro was recently announced in China with MediaTek's latest gaming chipset- Helio G90T. However, there were some eyebrows raised on why Xiaomi chose a MediaTek chipset for one of the much-awaited phones, considering the success of Redmi Note 7 Pro and Redmi Note 6 Pro. Before the launch of Redmi Note 8 Pro, it was said that Xiaomi might launch another variant of the phone with Snapdragon 712 SoC, but that did not happen eventually. Now, Xiaomi fans in India are expecting the company to launch a Snapdragon variant of the Note 8 Pro. Well, it seems like that's not going to happen and the Redmi Note 8 Pro in India will also come with MediaTek Helio G90T chipset. This news is officially confirmed by MediaTek India MD Anku Jain and he expects the smartphone will change the perception towards the chipmaker in the country.
Redmi Note 8 Pro With Helio G90T Chipset Coming to India
The Redmi Note 8 Pro is the world's first smartphone to feature the MediaTek Helio G90T chipset. And very soon, it will reach the Indian market as well. "In China, Redmi Note 8 Pro comes with MediaTek G90T SoC and the smartphone is selling very well. We expect the same in India," Anku Jain said to India Today Tech. MediaTek chipsets are often being criticised for the performance they offer, but that has changed over the last couple of years, special thanks to Realme and Oppo for making use of MediaTek Helio P series.
The Helio P60 was the best chipset MediaTek has ever launched till date and it was seen in many popular phones like Realme 1, Realme 3i and Oppo F series of phones. The Helio P70 is also being used on several Oppo and Realme phones. Not only in India, even in China, but MediaTek chipset phones also did well.
Xiaomi chose MediaTek's entry-level chipsets for the Redmi 6 series of phones and the fans did not like this move at all. However, results were extremely positive as the Redmi 6A with Helio A22 became the best-selling phone for three quarters in a row in India. Now, MediaTek is expecting the same with Redmi Note 8 Pro as well.
"Once the Redmi Note 8 Pro comes out and users see the great features and performance it delivers I think the mindset will change and the phone will do well in India as well, similar to China," Anku Jain further added.
Furthermore, he believes that the Redmi Note 8 Pro will change the game for both MediaTek and Xiaomi. Considering how successful the Redmi Note 7 Pro was, it will be very tough for the Redmi Note 8 Pro to fill those shoes. But the Note 8 Pro packs some incredible hardware and possibly the powerful chipset in the price range.
Redmi Note 8 Pro India Launch by October End
Right after the China launch, Xiaomi India team has announced the Redmi Note 8 series will reach the country within eight weeks. Everyone expected Xiaomi to launch the Redmi Note 8 Pro in India before the festive season, but that's not going to happen. The Redmi Note 8 series has two phones with the cheaper ones being the Redmi Note 8. The standard Note 8 has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 chipset, clubbed with up to 4GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage. It will be interesting to see at what price the Redmi Note 8 Pro will retail for in India, but it will surely be around the same price of Redmi Note 7 Pro.
