Xiaomi Redmi 8A Specs Revealed by TENAA: 5000mAh Battery, 6.2-inch HD+ Display and More in Tow

The Redmi 7A was launched in India just a few days ago at a starting price of Rs 5,999, but Xiaomi is already working on the Redmi 8A

  • The Redmi 8A is rumoured to come with a 5000mAh battery
  • The phone maybe launched alongside the Mi MIX 4 at the end of this month

Xiaomi Redmi 8A could well be the next entry-level smartphone from the house of the Chinese smartphone brand. Earlier today, we reported the Redmi 8A’s appearance on TENAA, and now, the same listing has been updated with full spec-sheet of the upcoming smartphone. The Redmi 8A seems to be a major upgrade over the Redmi 7A as it’s said to feature a 5000mAh battery, up to 4GB of RAM, massive 6.2-inch display and more. The Redmi 7A arrived with a 5.45-inch HD+ display, 4000mAh battery and a 12MP rear-facing camera. Also, it seems like Xiaomi will not change the hardware and camera departments on the Redmi 8A, instead, the company is focussed on offering a big display and big battery.

Xiaomi Redmi 8A Complete Specs Leaked Online

The Redmi 7A faced fierce competition from Realme C2 as the latter featured a big display and dual rear cameras. However, with the Redmi 8A, things will settle down for the major part. Going by the TENAA listing, the Redmi 8A will have a 6.2-inch HD+ display and there will be a teardrop notch on top, which results in higher screen-on-body ratio. In terms of the panel, it’s the same HD+ one on the Redmi 8A, but we may see a bigger screen this time around.

Underneath, the Redmi 8A will have a 2.0GHz processor and it could be the Snapdragon 439 SoC we saw on the Redmi 7A. Also, the listing reveals the Redmi 8A will come in three variants- 2GB+16GB, 3GB+32GB and 4GB+64GB. It’ surprising to see Xiaomi going for a 4GB RAM model with the Redmi 8A, but we will have to wait for the launch of the smartphone to know the exact details.

The rear camera on the Redmi 8A would still be a 12MP one and the front-facing camera with an 8MP unit. The phone will be backed by a 5000mAh battery- again a first on a Redmi A series phone, or maybe a first on any Redmi smartphone released till date.

Xiaomi Redmi 8A vs Redmi 7A: What are the Upgrades?

The Redmi 7A was launched in India just a few days ago at a starting price of Rs 5,999. It seems like the Redmi 8A will be a decent upgrade over the Redmi 7A in terms of on-paper specs. The Redmi 7A arrived with a 5.45-inch HD+ display and 18:9 aspect ratio, but the Redmi 8A is said to have a 6.2-inch HD+ panel similar to the Realme C2. At the heart of the Redmi 7A is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 SoC which was coupled with 2GB of RAM and up to 32GB of internal storage.

The Redmi 7A has a 12MP camera on the back, followed by an 8MP unit on the front and it was backed by a 4000mAh battery. Right now, we don’t have any info on when Xiaomi is actually planning to launch the Redmi 8A, but we may see it reaching the Indian market by the end of this year.

Also they should have waited for SnapDragon 460 (with Adreno 605) to launch.
I think Realme C3 might come with that processor.

Snapdragon 460 and 640 released? I doubt so. Otherwise Xiaomi would have used it in Redmi Note 5 Pro/Note 6 Pro itself.

Screenshot shows 460 & 665. Taken from adreno list source Wikipedia.

If that’s true,it’s interesting that Redmi didn’t go with snapdragon 640 for Redmi Note 5 Pro and Snapdragon 460 for Redmi 6.

I can see that you are trying to mock at me Nikhil.. (oversmart)
But I can assure you, I’m not talking crazy.
1. There are no Processors with 64x names unfortunately, & since qualcomm moved forward, they are not going back. So, we might never get to see Snapdragon 640. Also I didn’t mention it above, don’t know why you are bringing it again and again.
2. SnapDragon 460 with Adreno 605 (successor of 450) & SnapDragon 735 with Adeno 620 are coming next, later in Q4 2019 or in 2020. (look @ screen-shot).
& that is all what I meant to say.

I didn’t mock you at all. Why should I? When Redmi Note 5 Pro released, just prior to that(two months before in December 2017), Qualcomm announced they will release snapdragon 670,640,460(snapdragon 636 was released even before that in October 2017). So I thought Redmi Note 5(there was no reason to believe at that point of time Pro line up will come) will come with either snapdragon 640/670(due to 10nm it would have been fantastic for battery life of Redmi Note 5 Pro)(Also A-75 architecture of Kryo 360 is better than A73 architecture of Kryo 260). But it didn’t happen unfortunately.… Read more »

oh k…. now I get your point

Also I was surprised because Redmi didn’t utilised in Redmi Note 5 Pro(snapdragon 640) and Redmi 6(snapdragon 460)(when they were planned to launch in December 2017). That’s why mentioned it again. Also there was jump from snapdragon 450(Redmi 5) to Snapdragon 632(Redmi 7), so Xiaomi will have to use it in budget segment only. Helio P90 and Helio P35 is getting wasted like this only.

And last but not least, I won’t talk anything without any confirmation(In Pune, I talked about availability of both networks of Vodafone-Idea in some other post. I travelled almost all corners of city on Ganpati Visarajan with Idea network guys with my rooted One Plus 5T/Redmi Note 7 Pro and shared information here). I was so disappointed at A73 cores present in snapdragon 636 which Xiaomi used in Redmi Note 5 Pro. Xiaomi took jump from 28nm to 14nm. So I thought they will use 10nm chip inside whichever Note comes next. But that didn’t happen eventually/unfortunately. Check Gsmarena for… Read more »

Not released.. & I don’t think 640 is ever going to come.

Their 4 GB RAM model will be a big flop.
