Qualcomm is expected to launch the Snapdragon 898 SoC for the upcoming flagship smartphones in 2022. The chipset manufacturer has been ahead of MediaTek in both branding and performing when it comes to flagship chipsets. Now the Geekbench scores of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 SoC have been revealed. The chipset was installed in the smartphone model - Vivo V2102A. According to a Gizmochina report, the chipset is first expected to come with a Vivo smartphone in December 2021. Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 SoC Geekbench Scores

The Qualcomm 898 SoC’s single-core performance was 720 and the multi-core score was 1919. The operating system the Vivo device was running was Android 12. As per the info available online, the processor has 8 cores and the base frequency is just 1.78 GHz which is expected to increase as the mass production of the chipset kicks in.

The single-core score of 720 and multi-core score of 1919 looks very promising. The chipset will bring a 3400 architecture into play along with Adreno 730 GPU. The power consumption of this chipset with further improvements should go even higher.

The chipset is going to be manufactured by both the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and Samsung. It will be built on the 4nm process of Samsung and will deliver a 20% improvement in the performance over its predecessor, Snapdragon 888.

There will also be a ‘Plus’ variant of the chipset which is expected to arrive in the market as early as the second quarter of 2022. Qualcomm is expected to hold a summit in December where we should get more information about the chipset and which smartphone it will launch with. It will be interesting to see how MediaTek will compete with the Snapdragon 898 SoC. The Snapdragon 898 SoC is expected to power most of the Android flagships in 2022 including the OnePlus 10 series, Xiaomi 12, Galaxy S22 series, and more.
