Refreshing its mid-range chipsets, Qualcomm, today announced Snapdragon 675 Mobile Platform which sits in between the Snapdragon 710 and Snapdragon 670 platforms. All the three Mobile Platforms are relatively new and we haven't seen many smartphones launching with these chipsets. With the Snapdragon 675, Qualcomm is aiming to bring outstanding gaming capabilities to mid-range smartphones. Furthermore, the new chipset supports triple rear cameras- both on the front and rear, and also allows device manufacturers to add limitless slow-motion video recording. It comes with various Artificial Intelligence features and has a multi-core AI Engine which is rated to deliver up to 50% overall improvements in AI applications.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 Mobile Platform: Features
First of all, the Snapdragon 675 Mobile Platform is built on the 11nm LPP manufacturing process, which we haven't seen on any chipsets in the past. It has an octa-core CPU underneath with dual 2.0GHz Kryo 460 cores and one Hexa cluster with Kryo 460 crore clocked at 1.7GHz. It supports up to 8GB of RAM and has Qualcomm Adreno 612 GPU for gaming.
Moving onto the imaging aspect, the new Snapdragon 675 Mobile Platform has the Qualcomm Spectra 250 ISP and it supports a triple camera configuration in the front or back. Manufacturers can include a single 25MP shooter, 16MP dual rear cameras and up to 48MP snapshot. It has a large 14-bit Image Sensor Processors and supports 4k video recording at 30fps and 1080p video capture at 120fps., Snapdragon 675 provides limitless slo-mo – capable of recording extended slo-mo video clips in HD, not limited to one second or shorter bursts.
It has Snapdragon X12 modem which is capable of delivering downlink speeds up to 600 Mbps and 3x carrier aggregation. Qualcomm is betting big on the AI capabilities of this chipset. The Snapdragon 675 Mobile Platform features a multi-core AI Engine that is rated to deliver 50% overall improvements in AI applications. Qualcomm said that the "multi-core AI Engine is designed to improve mobile devices’ ability to acquire information and become the ultimate personal assistant by capturing photos and videos, learning and adapting to a user’s voice, and optimising battery life."
As for the connectivity options, the Snapdragon 675 supports dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac with MIMO 2×2, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, GLONASS and Dual 4G with Dual VoLTE. Lastly, the chipset supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ technology like the Snapdragon 670.
When to Expect Smartphones With Snapdragon 675?
At the ongoing, Qualcomm 4G 5G Summit in Hong Kong, the chipmaker said the Snapdragon 675 Mobile Platform is available today and is expected to be found in consumer devices in Q1 2019. Chinese handset maker, Xiaomi, at the same summit announced that it would launch a new smartphone with Snapdragon 675 very soon. This announcement was made by Manu Kumar Jain who is the Global VP and Managing Director of Xiaomi India. Xiaomi is yet to launch a smartphone with Snapdragon 670 processor and the company already launched the Snapdragon 710 SoC in the form of Mi 8 SE.
