HMD Global has already sent out media invites for an event on August 16, where the company is heavily expected to pull wraps of its first flagship phone- the Nokia 8. Vodafone Romania has already listed the smartphone on their website for €517.42 (approx. Rs. 39,000), which is a much cheaper price tag than other flagship phones available in the market right now.
Previously, it was rumoured that HMD is looking to keep the price of Nokia 8 below €600 or $600 in the Europe and the US respectively. The Indian price of the Nokia 8 is said to be Rs. 44,999, which is a decent price for a dual camera flagship smartphone.
The Nokia 8 is said to be the company’s first high-end device to come out since HMD renewed Nokia, a few months ago. Till date, HMD has launched four Nokia branded phones- Nokia 3310, Nokia 3, Nokia 5, and Nokia 6. Few rumours claimed that the phone would be officially unveiled on July 31, but that’s not the case now. That said, August 16 is not too far away.
Just a few days ago, and even yesterday, the Nokia 8 was spotted online, which revealed the design of the smartphone. Further, the Nokia 8 was briefly listed on Nokia’s official website where an image showcased the phone in its full glory, giving away the design and a few key specs.
The Nokia 8 is expected to come with a 5.3-inch Quad-HD display with 2.5D curved glass and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on top for protection. The Nokia 8 doesn’t feature any edge-to-edge display or 2:1 aspect ratio display, as other flagship phones.
The top and bottom bezels are larger than what we usually see in the recent smartphones, as per the leaked images. A retailer even listed the phone well ahead of the launch hinting that the Nokia 8 might come in Blue, Steel, Gold/blue, and Gold/copper variants.
HMD has recently entered into a partnership with Zeiss to change imaging in smartphones. The Nokia 8 will be the first smartphone to release from these brands. The Nokia 8 is said to have a 13MP dual-lens setup on the rear.
The Nokia 8 will be powered by the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chip, clubbed with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The device will come laden with Android 7.1.1 Nougat and will receive Android O update straight after the release.
