Poco Partners With Jio, Qualcomm to Launch India's Most Affordable 5G Smartphone
Smartphone maker Poco announced that it has collaborated with American chipmaker Qualcomm and India's largest telecom operator, Reliance Jio, to launch what the company calls 'India's Most Affordable 5G Phone,' the Poco C75 5G. The phone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 4s Gen2 5G chipset, with clock speeds of up to 2GHz.

Affordable 5G for All

The chipset offers Gigabit 5G, providing download speeds of up to 1Gbps, along with improved modem power efficiency of up to 37 percent. It is claimed to deliver up to 7x higher download throughput and up to 40 percent lower latency compared to LTE.

"This is the very first time we are going to revolutionise the 5G space with the launch of Poco C75 5G," said Himanshu Tandon, Head of Poco India.

"Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 4s Gen2 5G chipset in July 2024 at the Snapdragon for India event. Over 600 million users are still using 4G, 3G, or 2G networks and primarily the feature phones. One of the major bottlenecks for transitioning to 5G has been affordability. This Snapdragon 4s Gen2 chipset will bring '5G for All' in this price segment," said Saurabh Arora, Business Head, Qualcomm India.

"This is the only chipset in this price segment built on the 4nm process node, which offers better power efficiency," Arora added.

"At Reliance Jio, our mission has always been to empower India with cutting-edge technology and seamless connectivity toward building a Digital India. To that objective we pioneered 5G connectivity in India, and with Standalone 5G, we have enabled 5G technology to become available and affordable for all Indians. Our collaboration with Poco marks the pivotal step in making 5G truly accessible to all with the launch of Poco C75 5G, India's most affordable 5G smartphone. We are happy to support a device that combines innovation and affordability to bridge the digital divide. Together Jio and Poco are building a community where connectivity becomes a driving force for growth, opportunity, and empowerment, enabling millions of Indians to unlock the transformative potential of 5G technology and dream bigger, achieve more, and stay connected like never before," said Sunil Dutt, President of Reliance Jio.

Exclusive Offers with Jio

The smartphone supports the 5G standalone (SA) network provided by Reliance Jio. In partnership with Jio, Poco C75 users can enjoy free premium access to 10 OTT applications for three months with Jio 5G plans priced at Rs 349 and above. This includes JioCinema Premium, SonyLiv, and Zee5.

Network Support

According to the listing on the e-commerce portal Flipkart, the phone supports 2G GSM (B3/B5/B8), 3G WCDMA (B1/B5/B8), 4G LTE FDD (B1/B3/B5/B8/B28), 4G LTE TDD (B40/B41), and 5G SA (n1/n3/n5/n8/n28/n40/n78). However, there is little clarity on whether the device supports both 5G NSA and SA or only 5G SA, as the specifications and marketing materials suggest the latter. Poco India's marketing creatives highlight that 5G is supported only on the Jio network.
