OREX SAI, a joint venture between NTT DOCOMO and NEC, has announced the launch of a 4G Open RAN demonstration project in Cambodia, selected by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications as part of its FY 2024 initiative. This project aims to enhance the country's digital infrastructure, which is essential for economic and social activities, the official release said.

4G Open RAN in Cambodia
As global demand for mobile communication technologies like 4G and 5G rises, concerns about supply chain risks and cybersecurity have intensified. Open RAN reportedly offers a solution by allowing interconnection between devices from multiple vendors, thereby promoting flexibility, scalability, and cost efficiency in network deployment.
Demonstration Details and AI Integration
According to the official release, the demonstration will take place at a major commercial facility in Cambodia, where OREX will verify the functionality of voice and data communications. Additionally, AI solutions from NTT DATA Malaysia will be tested to explore stable mobile network use cases.

Workshop for Local Talent
To further promote Open RAN, OREX will host a workshop on October 28, 2024, at the Cambodia Academy of Digital Technology (CADT), focusing on local talent development in this field.
