Oppo is an innovator. The company has set up a new lab in India that will focus on coming out with better camera performance for the smartphones that are launched in the country. The lab will innovate and develop localised features and artificial intelligence (AI) solutions for Indian users. The Camera innovation lab of the company has been set up in Hyderabad at the company’s R&D centre. Inside the lab, the company will use smartphones to click pictures in artificially recreated scenes for analysing the data that the samples generate.

According to an ET Telecom report, the Oppo Camera lab is equipped with specialised machines for testing various light sources across different kinds of scenarios for both videography and photography. With the data samples, the Oppo team inside the Camera lab will work on improving the camera of its smartphones by optimising the technology.

Oppo will also be coming out with new AI Facial reconstruction, AI algorithms, and other solutions to improve the pictures for people who have ‘Indian skin tones’. At the same time, the Hyderabad lab will also be spearheading the innovations for other countries which include Japan, Europe, South Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.

Oppo said that the lab will also work on developing solutions for capturing still photographs, new solutions for video, and research on Full Dimension Fusion (FDF) Portrait Video System technology.

With the setup of the new lab, Indian users can expect the future Oppo smartphones to come with better camera technology. Even the current Oppo smartphones’ camera system can be enhanced with the help of software updates. The company is working on developing solutions that can be used globally by Oppo users. This announcement from the Oppo comes at the heel of OnePlus integration which will enable the latter to develop better products.
