Oppo’s new budget-oriented sub-brand Realme has launched its second-generation smartphone in India. The phone is going to be up for sale via an online-only model. The first phone by the brand, Realme 1 garnered massive sales in the country and was sold out almost instantly when it was put up for grabs. Now with some upgrades, downgrades and with a modern notch design, Realme is hoping for a similar response from the country for its second generation Realme 2. Realme 2 Discounts, Cashbacks and More on Flipkart

The Realme 2 will be up for sale on Flipkart on September 4, and it will debut at a starting price of Rs 8,990 for the entry-level variant of 3GB+32GB, HDFC Debit card and credit card holders will be eligible for an upfront discount of Rs 750 on this purchase. After this discount, the phone will bear an effective price tag of Rs 8,240. Apart from this discount, purchasers who exchange their old phones will be eligible for a minimum discount of Rs 500. Further, Reliance Jio is also shipping benefits worth of Rs 4,200 and an additional 120GB data for the users who activate their newly purchased Jio SIM on the Realme 2. Additionally, you could also choose to buy complete mobile protection from Flipkart for Rs 199.

Realme 2 Specifications and Features

The Realme 2 features a 6.2-inch IPS LCD with a resolution of 720 x 1520 pixels and a large aspect ratio of 19:9 which also accommodates the notch. Owing to this modern design, the Realme 2 attains a high screen to body ratio of 88.8% which is an impressive improvement over its predecessor which had a screen to body ratio of 75.7%.

Powering the Realme 2 on the inside is the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor which comes paired with 3GB or 4GB of RAM. As for the inbuilt storage, the 3GB RAM variant pairs with 32GB of inbuilt storage, and the 4GB RAM model comes with 64GB of onboard storage. However, the Realme 2 also comes with a microSD card slot in case you want to expand the inbuilt storage capacity.

In the camera and imaging department, the Realme 2 comes with 13MP + 2MP dual-camera setup at the back while on the front side, we get to see an 8MP selfie snapper. The front camera on this device also comes with AI-based features like AI beauty based on AI beauty 2.0 technology and AR stickers. Also, for security purposes, the Realme 2 comes with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, the Face Unlock feature, and a smart unlock feature. Realme has claimed that the Face Unlock feature will be able to detect 128 unique facial features. On the software front, the phone boots Android 8.1 Oreo-based ColorOS 5.1 out of the box and also there is no lack of software additions like AI Gaming Acceleration, AI Power Master, and AI Shot.

The battery on this device is a 4230mAh capacity one which is quite impressive when compared to other smartphones of the same range. The dimensions of the handset measure 156.2 x 75.6 x 8.2mm and it weighs 168 grams. The connectivity options on the phone include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2 Low Energy, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, and Dual 4G VoLTE.

Realme 2 Pro Teased to Launch in Late September

During the launch of the Realme 2, the company also teased a higher variant which will be called the Realme 2 Pro. However, the actual date of the launch is still a speculated one and not a final one. Judging by the company’s announcement of the Realme 2 Pro, the device is expected to pack either the Snapdragon 636 or the Snapdragon 660 SoC. Madhav Sheth, CEO of Realme India said about this higher variant of the Realme 2, “the upcoming Realme 2 Pro will offer best of the processor and best of design.”
