Oppo R15x With Snapdragon 660 SoC and In-Display Fingerprint Scanner is Now Official

After an array of leaks and rumours, Oppo has finally made the R15x official in its homeland China. The Oppo R15x is yet another smartphone with Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset and in-display fingerprint scanner from Oppo. Very recently, the BBK Electronics-owned company launched the Oppo K1 handset in China and the specifications of Oppo R15x is quite identical to the K1, except for the colour options the new model ships with. The Oppo R15x has a teardrop notch on top of the display, same as the Oppo F9 Pro and the upcoming OnePlus 6T. Also, the smartphone has decent hardware underneath which makes it a worthy mid-range handset and also keeps in competition with the likes of Xiaomi Mi A2, Nokia 7 Plus in China.

Oppo R15x: Specifications and Features

Moving onto the specifications, the Oppo R15x has a large 6.4-inch Full HD+ display on the front which carries a resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels and has a 2.5D curved glass on top. Both the front and rear glass panels are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass technology. Under the hood, the Oppo R15x ships with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 AIE chipset, clubbed with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Notably, Oppo launched the R15x in only one variant which is understandable since the Oppo K1 comes in various configurations. Users can also expand the storage up to 256GB with the help of hybrid microSD card slot.

The phone comes with Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box with ColorOS 5.1 laid on top. Oppo is yet to launch a smartphone with Android 9 Pie and is yet to update an existing smartphone to the latest iteration of Android. This Dual SIM smartphone offers connectivity options such as Dual 4G, VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS and a USB Type-C port is present on the bottom side.

The phone comes armed with a 3600mAh battery and it even has fast charging support. Lastly, we have the cameras of 16MP+2MP on the rear side, followed by a 25MP shooter on the front. As mentioned above, the Oppo R15x has an in-display fingerprint scanner joining the likes of Oppo K1 and Oppo R17.

Oppo R15x: Pricing and Colour Options

Aforesaid, Oppo recently launched the Oppo K1 in China with the exact same spec-sheet, and you might be wondering by now- why the Oppo R15x exists. Right? Well, the Oppo R15x will be sold via offline stores and comes in a single variant with 6GB of RAM and 128GB onboard storage. The phone can be purchased across the offline stores in China in two colour options- Nebula and Glacial Silver. It's priced at 2499 Yuan (approx. Rs 26,300) and will be available starting November 1, as posted by Oppo in Weibo.

Oppo R15x vs Oppo K1: What Are the Differences?

A few weeks back, the Oppo K1 was launched as the cheapest smartphone with an in-display fingerprint scanner. The Oppo R15x and Oppo K1 both share similar specifications. The Oppo K1 comes in a plastic body, while the Oppo R15x has a 3D glass on the rear side. The hardware is similar on both the phones. The Oppo R15x comes in different colour options compared to the Oppo K1. Also, the Oppo K1 is an online-only smartphone which allowed the company to price it aggressively.
