Oppo A9 is the latest mid-range smartphone from the Chinese smartphone manufacturer to launch in India. Priced at Rs 15,490, the Oppo A9 offers a waterdrop notch display, dual rear cameras, powerful MediaTek Helio P70 chipset, 128GB of internal storage and a beefy 4020mAh battery. Oppo also confirmed that the Oppo A9 would have some dedicated gaming features and it will run ColorOS 6 out of the box based on Android 9 Pie. Oppo will be selling A9 across offline and online stores starting July 20. The phone will compete with the likes of Redmi Note 7 Pro, Realme 3 Pro, Samsung Galaxy A30 and the recently launched Realme X. But on the specifications side, the phone lags behind the Redmi Note 7 Pro and Realme X since the company will be selling it in the offline market as well.

Oppo A9: Specifications and Features

The Oppo A9 has a 6.53-inch Full HD+ display with a resolution of 1080x2340 pixels and 19:9 aspect ratio. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and there's a waterdrop notch on the top of the display. Underneath, the Oppo A9 packs the MediaTek Helio P70 chipset, paired with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. There's a microSD card slot as well for storage expansion.

Oppo has launched the A9 in only one variant at the moment, but in the future, we might see other variants making into the Indian market. Connectivity options on the smartphone include 4G LTE, VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, GLONASS and a Micro USB port. Yes, the Oppo A9 has a Micro USB port and not the USB Type-C port like the Redmi Note 7 Pro and Realme X.

The phone measures 8.33mm in thickness despite having a 4020mAh battery underneath. Oppo did not mention any fast charging capabilities available on the A9. As for the cameras, we get a 16MP primary shooter with f/1.8 aperture on the back that gets some assistance from a 2MP depth sensor. Frontal, Oppo has added a 16MP shooter which has f/2.0 aperture and AI Face Unlock feature.

Oppo A9: Pricing and Availability in India

The Oppo A9 was originally launched in China a couple of months ago. In China, the phone is selling for 1,799 Yuan (approx. Rs 18,500). The Indian pricing of the Oppo A9 is Rs 15,490, which is way below the price of the Chinese variant. Oppo confirmed that it would be selling the A9 across both online and offline stores starting July 20.

But Oppo's A9 lacks behind the competition, especially the ones selling in the online market- Realme X and Redmi Note 7 Pro as the latter has a much powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 SoC, while the former comes powered by Snapdragon 710 chipset. But to counter these online selling phones, Oppo will soon be launching the Oppo K3 online-only smartphone with impressive specs on board.
