OnePlus Teases a Mystery Box for January 2018; Could Be the Sandstone Variant of OnePlus 5T

OnePlus 5T might soon be made available in the Sandstone Black avatar as the Chinese company has posted a teaser video with a mysterious product hidden inside it. In the video, several people are putting their hand inside the box, and most of them recognised a textured back. The interesting part is some people even said that the back reminds them of the Sandstone variants of the OnePlus One and OnePlus 2.

If you recall, OnePlus' first two smartphones- the OnePlus One and the OnePlus 2 featured a textured back, which OnePlus calls as Sandstone back with a nice feel to it. But the last two iterations- the OnePlus 3 and the OnePlus 5 came with metal backs. OnePlus recently launched the Star Wars Edition of the OnePlus 5T which has a Sandstone White back and it won't be a surprise if the company launches a standard Standstone variant of the OnePlus 5T.

At the end of the video, OnePlus said that the mystery would be revealed in January 2018, looking to kick off the New Year with a new version.

Will OnePlus launch a Sandstone case for the OnePlus 5T? It won't because the 5T already has a Sandstone case. So, it must be a Sandstone version of the 5T, according to us.

OnePlus did not launch the Star Wars Edition is many markets such as Europe and North America. Maybe the company is looking to launch a Sandstone Black variant of the 5T in those markets where it's not selling the limited edition variant. Also, the Sandstone Black variant might be made available in limited quantities.

Currently, we have no information on what OnePlus is up to. All we can say is wait until January 2018 to see what's inside the mystery box. It is also rumoured that OnePlus 6 will be launched in March 2018, much ahead of the company's usual June-July launch. A leak from China suggested that OnePlus 6 will have Snapdragon 845 SoC and will come out in June 2018. Currently, OnePlus is selling the OnePlus 5T Midnight Black variant at Rs 32,999 and Rs 37,999 respectively, while the premium Star Wars Edition is going for Rs 38,999 in India.
