The wait is finally over for all the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T users as the Chinese company starts seeding the much-awaited Android 9 Pie update to the users. On the OnePlus Forums page, the company confirmed the incremental rollout of OxygenOS 9.0.2 update which is based on Android 9 Pie to both the OnePlus 3 and 3T users. Before the stable update rollout, OnePlus released two community beta versions to take user feedback and also squash all the bugs to deliver a smooth experience. It's incredible to see a three-year-old smartphone getting Android 9 Pie update, but OnePlus is known for rolling out regular security updates and major Android iteration upgrades. OxygenOS 9.0.2 for OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T brings the brand new interface the company introduced with the OnePlus 6T, alongside adding features like Do Not Disturb Mode, deeper Google Duo integration and Gaming Mode 3.0.

OxygenOS 9.0.2 for OnePlus 3, 3T: What's New?

First of all, OnePlus stated that the update is being rolled out incrementally, so there are chances that you may not receive it today. OnePlus also detailed the changelog of the update on its Forums page: firstly, the update brings all the new Android 9 Pie features like gesture navigation (stock version), adaptive brightness, adaptive battery and the option to set light or dark theme.

On top of the stock Android 9 Pie features, OnePlus has added some OxygenOS exclusive ones. It's already a known news that OnePlus modifies the SystemUI in OxygenOS and the latest update for OnePlus 3 models brings an updated UI which the company introduced with the OnePlus 6T. Also, the update adds April 2019 security patches which is another good thing to see.

Other features include updated Do Not Disturb mode which now allows users to customise the time range; new Gaming Mode 3.0 that displays text content of the heads up notifications and also shows notification for third-party calls. OnePlus' Dialer app now comes integrated with Google Duo for making video calls directly from the app itself. Lastly, the camera app now has Google Lens integration and the company also fixed general bugs and improved the overall performance.

OxygenOS 9.0.2 for OnePlus 3, 3T Rollout Begins in a Phased Manner

Every time OnePlus rolls out a new update, it does it in a phased manner. And the same applies to OxygenOS 9.0.2 for OnePlus 3 and 3T smartphones. "This OTA will have a staged rollout, the OTA will be received by a limited number of users today and will have a broader rollout in a few days (sometimes a couple of weeks or more) after making sure there are no critical bugs," said the company in a press statement.

Earlier, users used to download a VPN app to change to location and get the update faster than others. However, OnePlus clearly states that the method may not work like earlier. "Using VPN to download this build might not work as the rollout is not based on regions and is randomly pushed out to a very limited number of devices," added the Chinese company.

Besides Google, OnePlus is the only brand which delivered three iterative Android updates to any smartphone and it's an incredible feat. When Android 9 Pie was announced, OnePlus said that it might not update the phone to the latest version, but based on heavy demand, the company is pushing the update to the users across the world.
