Obi Mobiles begins Indian operations: launches Octopus S520 for Rs 11,990

John Sculley backed Obi Mobiles has commenced its Indian operations and has launched the Octopus S520, an octa core handset for Rs 11,990. The announcement comes after Xiaomi’s commencement of Indian operations. Obi has priced the device pretty aggressively but it somehow manages to look still overpriced. Nonetheless, it is a good attempt from Obi.

Obi Mobile specifications

  • 5 inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels
  • 1.7 GHz Octa-Core MediaTek MT6592 processor
  • Mali 450 GPU
  • Android 4.4 KitKat
  • 1GB RAM
  • 8GB of internal storage which can be expanded further by another 32GB with a microSD card
  • 8MP rear camera with LED flash and and 2MP front camera
  • 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and Dual SIM connectivity
  • White colour only
  • Free flip cover, screen guar and headset
  • 1800 mAh battery

It has been launched on Snapdeal and despite the fact that it comes across as a good device when compared to the Micromax and Karbonn offerings but seems overpriced when we compare it to the Xiaomi Redmi Note. Let us see if it helps Obi gets a strong footing in the Indian market.

12k pricepoint, Octacore+1800mAh disastreous combo, MediaTek, 720p screen…

Why would someone pay that kind of money to you instead of Moto or Xiaomi?
