HMD Global is ending the year on a high note. The Finnish company which is currently selling Android-powered Nokia smartphones across the globe today announced the Android 9 Pie update to its affordable and powerful Nokia 5.1 Plus smartphone. With this rollout, HMD Global now has Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 6.1 Plus, Nokia 6.1, Nokia 8, Nokia 8.1, Nokia 7.1 and Nokia 5.1 Plus running the latest iteration of Android. It has officially surpassed Google to become the brand with the most number of smartphones running Android 9 Pie. Google has six smartphones under its portfolio running Android Pie while HMD has seven smartphones. The next smartphone in the list is the Nokia 8 Sirocco which might receive the Pie update early in 2019.

Nokia 5.1 Plus Joins the List of Devices to Get Android 9 Pie

The Nokia 5.1 Plus is one of the best smartphones from the house of HMD Global. It's a rebranded version of Nokia X5 which also got the Pie update earlier this week. HMD announced the Nokia 5.1 Plus and Nokia 6.1 Plus both in India at the same time back in August this year. While the Nokia 6.1 Plus received the Pie update back in September itself, the Nokia 5.1 Plus is receiving it starting today.

HMD Global is pushing the Pie update to Nokia 5.1 Plus starting today and the rollout will take place in batches. The update brings all the Android Pie features such as adaptive brightness, adaptive battery, App Actions, Digital Wellbeing, revamped Settings application, redesigned quick tiles and notification shade, and so on. As of now, we did not get the update on our Nokia 5.1 Plus, but again, the rollout happens in a phased manner, so keep checking for the update every now and then manually.

Nokia 5.1 Plus: One of the Best Budget Phones of 2018

HMD Global surprised one and all with its pricing strategy this year. The brand which was questioned for its overpriced smartphones since its inception turned the tables around with just two mobile phones- Nokia 6.1 Plus and the Nokia 5.1 Plus. The Nokia 6.1 Plus was one of the best mid-range smartphones available for purchase today, while the Nokia 5.1 Plus will go down as one of the best budget phones released this year. In fact, the Nokia 5.1 Plus is the best budget gaming phone at Rs 10,999. Notably, the phone comes in a single variant with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. It was expected that HMD might release a premium variant with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage at a later date, but that didn't happen until now.

Nokia 5.1 Plus: Specifications and Features

Talking about the specifications, the handset sports a 5.86-inch HD+ display and comes powered by the MediaTek Helio P60 chipset. As noted, it's available in a single 3GB+32GB storage variant at the moment. The phone runs clean stock Android out of the box and it's also part of Android One programme. A 13MP primary shooter is present on the rear side and it works in tandem with a 5MP secondary shooter. On the front side, there's an 8MP selfie camera for selfies and video calls. It's backed by a 3060mAh battery and offers Dual VoLTE support.
