NBN Co to Launch Multi-Gigabit Speeds for Broadband in September 2025
Australia's National Broadband Network Company, NBN Co, confirmed it will accelerate the wholesale download and upload speeds on its three highest-speed residential wholesale products and make them available to participating internet retailers from September 14, 2025. The upgrades will offer significantly faster connections for eligible customers connected via Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) and Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC) technologies.

New Speed Tiers for Customers

NBN Co will accelerate its nbn Home Fast wholesale product from 100/20 Mbps to deliver five times faster wholesale download speeds of 500/50 Mbps. In Home Superfast, speeds will increase from 250/25 Mbps to 750/50 Mbps. In Home Ultrafast, speeds will be upgraded from 500/50 Mbps to around 1000/50 Mbps to 1000/100 Mbps.

For new Home Hyperfast, speeds will be available in two variants: 2 Gbps speeds with 2,000/200 Mbps for FTTP and 2,000/100 Mbps for HFC.

Launch for All Retail Providers

NBN Co said it will enable the simultaneous launch of all new, accelerated speed tiers in September 2025 to allow all retail providers a reasonable opportunity to make the enhancements available to their customers.

This announcement follows six months of detailed consultation with retailers, whose collective feedback was used to inform the development of the new products and the timing of the launch, the official release said.

"We have extended fibre and upgraded our Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC) network capabilities in hundreds of communities across Australia. From September 2025, more than 9 million premises will be eligible to access the highest residential speed tiers from nbn," NBN Co said.

There are no changes to the nbn wholesale pricing for these speed tiers arising from the speed increases, NBN Co confirmed.
